Congressman Appears To Say Trump Should Be Killed

According to The Hill, Representative Daniel Goldman (D-N.Y.) issued an apology on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday for his use of the word “eliminated” when discussing former President Trump. Goldman expressed regret for his “poor choice of words” and clarified that while he believes Trump must be defeated, he wishes no harm to him and does not condone political violence.

The controversy arose during an interview with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, where Goldman asserted that Trump’s rhetoric was becoming increasingly dangerous. He stated, “It is just unquestionable at this point that that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be, he has to be eliminated.”

Goldman’s use of the term “eliminated” sparked criticism, prompting him to issue the apology and clarify that he did not mean to suggest harm or violence. The context of what Goldman specifically meant by “eliminated” was not immediately clear, and Psaki did not question the language during the interview.

The former president, Trump, is currently facing four criminal indictments, with two cases focusing on allegations of efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election to President Biden. Despite legal challenges, Trump remains a prominent figure in the GOP and is considered a front-runner in the 2024 presidential primary.

“Yesterday on TV, I mistakenly used the wrong word to express the importance for America that Donald Trump doesn’t become President again,” Goldman wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“While he must be defeated, I certainly wish no harm to him and do not condone political violence,” Goldman continued. “I apologize for the poor choice of words.”
