District Attorney ‘Ready To Go’ With Trump Cheating Charges

According to NBC, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has reiterated her commitment to announce charging decisions related to the investigation into efforts by former President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia by September 1st. In a recent interview during a back-to-school event, Willis stated that the work has been completed, and her team is prepared to move forward.

In May, Willis had signaled that charging decisions could come as early as August, and she requested that no in-person trials or hearings be scheduled for the weeks of August 7th and 14th. She further indicated that she would announce the charging decisions during a state Superior Court term that commenced this month.

To facilitate the process, Judge Robert McBurney seated two grand juries, expected to convene until September 1st, to hear cases related to potential election interference charges against Trump and his allies.

Given the significance of the investigation, Willis acknowledged that not everyone may be content with her decisions, and she is preparing for potential reactions. In light of concerns about security, she praised the Fulton County sheriff for ensuring the courthouse’s safety, stating that she is not willing to jeopardize the well-being of employees or constituents visiting the courthouse.

The investigation, launched in early 2021, aims to determine if there were any coordinated attempts to unlawfully alter the 2020 election results in Georgia. A special grand jury, empowered to issue subpoenas for witness testimony, was convened to investigate the matter. The jury’s foreperson, Emily Kohrs, disclosed on NBC’s “Nightly News” in February that the jury had recommended indictments for over a dozen individuals, although the names remain undisclosed.

As part of the probe, at least eight of Georgia’s “fake electors,” who falsely declared Trump’s victory in Georgia, have been granted immunity. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and accused Willis of leading a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.
