According to Mediate, the rivalry between former President Donald Trump and his Republican primary contender, former Vice President Mike Pence, has intensified in the wake of Trump’s recent indictment over the January 6th events. The former president, who was arraigned in DC earlier in the week, has faced criticism from his supporters who blamed Pence for not stopping Congress from certifying the election results on that fateful day. However, Pence has maintained that he chose to uphold the Constitution over blind loyalty to Trump.
In response to Pence’s comments regarding Trump’s indictment, the former president took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to express his frustration and lash out at his former vice president. Trump criticized Pence’s alleged loyalty to him, claiming that he never instructed him to put Trump above the Constitution. He further labeled Pence as “delusional” and accused him of trying to present himself as a “tough guy” after the events of January 6th.
“WOW, it’s finally happened! Liddle’ Mike Pence, a man who was about to be ousted as Governor Indiana until I came along and made him V.P., has gone to the Dark Side,” Trump wrote to his followers. “I never told a newly emboldened (not based on his 2% poll numbers!) Pence to put me above the Constitution, or that Mike was “too honest.”
He added, “He’s delusional, and now he wants to show he’s a tough guy. I once read a major magazine article on Mike. It said he was not a very good person. I was surprised, but the article was right. Sad!”
Trump also referenced an article he read in the past that portrayed Pence in a negative light, suggesting that the former vice president is not a very good person. This public attack on Pence reflects the escalating tensions between the two political figures as they vie for support from conservative primary voters in the upcoming Republican primary.
Since the events of January 6th, Pence has struggled to gain support from certain segments of conservative primary voters due to his decision to allow Congress to certify the election results. This decision has been a point of contention among Trump’s supporters, and it has complicated Pence’s campaign efforts as he seeks to distinguish himself from his former boss and navigate the political fallout from that fateful day.
