According to Mediaite, on Wednesday night, Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) strongly criticized Donald Trump’s buddy Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), alleging that Gaetz had boasted about taking erectile dysfunction (E.D.) medication with energy drinks to extend his sexual encounters. Gaetz’s recent actions, including filing a motion to vacate the chair and ousting Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership, had caused considerable frustration among congressional Republicans.
Gaetz’s motion to vacate the chair, which ultimately succeeded with 208 Democratic votes and only eight Republican votes, drew ire from his fellow Republicans, particularly in the Senate. Senator Markwayne Mullin expressed his views on Gaetz’s actions in a candid exchange with CNN’s Manu Raju outside the Capitol:
Mullin highlighted Gaetz’s past controversies, including allegations of a sexual relationship with an underage girl, which initially garnered little attention from the media. According to Mullin, none of his fellow Republicans in the conference came to Gaetz’s defense during that time, likely due to their awareness of the videos Gaetz had shown on the House floor. Mullin claimed that Gaetz had openly talked about crushing E.D. medication and consuming energy drinks to maintain extended sexual activity, although this occurred before he got married. When the accusation of involvement with an underage girl emerged, Gaetz received little support from his party or the media.
The Department of Justice had conducted an investigation into the allegations of Gaetz’s involvement with a minor, ultimately concluding without filing charges.
You’ve gotta think about this guy. This is a guy that didn’t have – that the media didn’t give the time of day to after he was accused of sleeping with an underage girl. And there’s a reason why no one in the conference came and defended him – because we had all seen the videos he was showing on the House floor that all of us had walked away, of the girls he had slept with.
He bragged about how he would crush E.D. medicine and chase it with energy drinks so he could go all night. This is obviously before he got married. And so, when that accusation came out, no one defended him. And then no one in the media would give him the time of the day. All of a sudden he found fame because he opposed the speaker of the House back in November. And he’s always stayed there. And he was never gonna leave until he got this last moment of fame by saying– by going after a motion to vacate.
Mullin’s remarks shed light on the tensions and divisions within the Republican Party, particularly in response to Gaetz’s recent actions and his past controversies.
