According to NME, Elon Musk has taken a dig at the pop-punk band Green Day for modifying the lyrics of their song ‘American Idiot’ during their New Year’s Eve performance. The band, led by Billie Joe Armstrong, changed the line “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda,” targeting Donald Trump. Musk responded to an article about the lyric change on Twitter, criticizing Green Day for going from “raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it,” accompanied by laughing emojis.
Twitter users quickly pointed out that “milquetoastedly” is not a valid word, with one providing the correct term, “milquetoast.” Musk’s tweet generated discussions about the band’s political statements, with mentions of their history of criticizing Trump, including leading an anti-Trump chant at the American Music Awards in 2016 and selling a charity t-shirt featuring Trump’s mugshot.
This incident is not the first time Musk has expressed his opinions on social media, often using Twitter as a platform to share his thoughts on various subjects. Green Day, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of their upcoming album ‘Saviors’ on January 19, featuring singles like ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me,’ ‘Look Ma, No Brains!,’ and ‘Dilemma.’ The band has a history of making political statements, and their latest lyric change sparked reactions from both fans and critics.
“Milquetoastedly” is not a word in any way shape or form. Milquetoast is the adjective. If you’re going to form the adverbial form it would be “milquetoastly”
