Over the weekend, Jim Hoft reported that Elon Musk, the owner of X, shared a viral parody video of Vice President Kamala Harris. The video, created by the account @MrReaganUSA, employs AI to point out Harris’s attributes, such as being labeled the “ultimate diversity hire,” a “deep state puppet,” and featuring her characteristic “word salads” and imitation of Barack Obama. Thanks to Musk’s endorsement, the parody has garnered over 130 million views.
California Governor Gavin Newsom was notably displeased with the video’s success. He criticized Musk for amplifying Mr. Reagan’s content and expressed his view that such parodies should be illegal. Newsom indicated plans to sign a bill aimed at censoring similar content, following California’s recent advancement of legislation imposing “safety” regulations on AI companies, despite resistance from Big Tech.
Newsom stated, “Manipulating a voice in an ‘ad’ like this one should be illegal,” and promised to sign legislation addressing the issue in the near future.
In response, Musk took a jibe at Newsom with a colorful and NSFW remark. He tweeted, “I checked with renowned world authority, Professor Suggon Deeznutz, and he said parody is legal in America.” Musk then polled his followers on whether Newsom should establish an endowed chair at the University of California for the “professor,” with nearly 90% of respondents supporting the idea.
