Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor and legal advisor to former President Donald Trump, suggested on Fox News that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis might face criminal charges over alleged false statements regarding her personal relationship with fellow Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Dershowitz, along with former Trump advisor Stephen Miller, expressed the belief that the undisclosed relationship between Willis and Wade should disqualify her from continuing the racketeering case against President Trump and 18 other co-defendants.
He emphasized the need for disqualification, citing the potential personal benefit gained from hiring Wade and questioning whether both Willis and Wade committed perjury when testifying under oath about the timeline of their relationship. Dershowitz indicated that a witness may testify that their relationship became sexual before Wade began working for Willis, potentially leading to a criminal trial for perjury.
The upcoming evidentiary hearing, scheduled for Thursday, will determine whether Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee allows an inquiry into the testimony about the romantic involvement timeline. Dershowitz emphasized the importance of holding the district attorney and special district attorney accountable for perjury if proven true.
Willis has faced significant local and national scrutiny over her relationship with Wade, with allegations that taxpayer dollars were used for first-class airline tickets and other unnecessary expenses. President Trump, reportedly planning to attend Thursday’s hearing, has used court appearances as a platform to portray the various criminal cases against him as a “witch hunt” and draw attention to what he perceives as political motives.
In addition to the relationship controversy, Willis is under investigation by the Georgia legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives. The probes are examining whether she misappropriated funds for her case against Trump and if she improperly collaborated with a federal special counsel on election interference charges. Willis has dismissed criticism of her relationship with Wade as racially and politically motivated. The situation remains tense, with ongoing legal and political ramifications.
