An evidentiary hearing regarding alleged misconduct by Soros-backed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis unfolded on Thursday, where the judge is considering whether Willis should be disqualified from the Trump RICO case. According to reports, the hearing revealed details of a romantic relationship between Fani Willis and top Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Witness Robin Yearti, who worked in Fani Willis’s office, testified that the relationship between Fani Willis and Nathan Wade began in 2019, predating Willis assigning Wade as the lead prosecutor in the RICO case against President Trump.
During the hearing, Nathan Wade, Fani Willis’s romantic partner, testified under oath that he financed all vacations taken with Willis using his business card, and Willis reimbursed him in cash for the expenses. This information came to light during a cross-examination by Michael Roman’s attorney, Ashleigh Merchant.
Nathan Wade faced intense questioning from Michael Roman’s other attorney, Craig Gillen, about his sexual relationship with Fani Willis. Wade admitted to the court that he may have provided a false answer in an interrogatory related to his divorce case about ‘entertaining’ Fani Willis while he was still married to his wife, Jocelyn Wade. Additionally, Wade confessed to engaging in sexual relations with Fani Willis while serving as a prosecutor in the Trump case.
During the cross-examination, Wade squirmed as Craig Gillen asked him if the sexual relationship continued into the summer of 2023.
The judge overseeing the case, Scott McAfee, expressed on Monday that Fani Willis may face disqualification from the Trump RICO case due to her improper relationship with Nathan Wade. Judge McAfee emphasized the need for an evidentiary hearing to establish the facts surrounding the alleged conflict of interest, including the existence and extent of any financial benefit resulting from the relationship.
The judge highlighted the key issues at hand, including determining the nature of the relationship, when it formed, and whether it continues. The questions about the existence and extent of any personal benefit conveyed as a result of the relationship were also deemed relevant in assessing the potential for disqualification.
