It has been noted that Nikki Haley told a table of voters at a diner in Amherst, New Hampshire on Friday that she will not be “anybody’s vice president” via Mediaite.
Politico’s senior political columnist Jonathan Martin wrote on X Friday, “News: @NikkiHaley just told a table of voters at a diner in Amherst, NH – ‘I don’t want to be anybody’s vice-president, that’s off the table.’”
Haley’s comment comes after Axios reported that Haley, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) were former President Donald Trump’s top three choices for vice president.
Haley has previously declared, “I don’t play for second, I’ve never played for second,” when pressed on whether or not she would join Trump’s ticket if asked. Trump allies have fumed at the idea of Haley joining the ticket.
“I would do whatever I could to make sure it wasn’t Nikki Haley!” Donald Trump Jr. told Newsmax on Thursday. “That’s my opinion, I don’t make these decisions.”
Axios’s Zachary Basu reported on Thursday that Trump is considering Haley for vice president in order to appeal to moderates in the party and independents in the general election. “Haley has insisted she doesn’t ‘play for second,’ but a unity ticket — which Trump was reportedly considering in December — could help attract moderates and swing voters that he’ll need for the general election,” Basu reported.
Haley continued to sharpen her attacks on Trump this week and rebuked one of the former president’s key litmus tests for his support — repeating the widely debunked lie that the 2020 election was stolen.
”Trump says things Americans aren’t stupid to just believe what he says. The reality is, who lost the House for us? Who lost the Senate? Who lost the White House? Donald Trump, Donald Trump, Donald Trump. Nikki Haley will win every single one of those back for us,” Haley told reporters in New Hampshire on Thursday.
