The Daily Mail reported that Biden’s poor debate performance was allegedly orchestrated as part of a “soft coup” by Democrat operatives who believe he is unfit to govern. They supposedly set up the debate early to test Biden against Trump, with plans to replace him if he failed, which he reportedly did. Prominent Democrats have been privately discussing Biden’s shortcomings for some time, while publicly supporting him to maintain party unity.
“There has never been a debate this early before,” a former Hillary Clinton aide explained to the outlet. “Traditionally, the debates are held after the Republican and Democratic conventions, which are in July and August.”
“There is a growing belief this was a ‘soft coup’ because they know he isn’t fit to govern and have known for some time,” the aide continued. “They wanted to test him against Trump early while there was still time to replace him if he failed to rise to the occasion. Which, of course, he did spectacularly.”
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a potential replacement candidate, has reportedly taken steps towards a presidential bid. She sent an advance team to Washington DC weeks ago, signaling her preparation and ambition for higher office. Whitmer, known for her mixed reputation in Michigan, has been considered a contender for national office and was previously a finalist for Biden’s vice-presidential pick in 2020.
Critics, including Whitmer’s opponents, have accused her of authoritarian governance during COVID-19 and alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party, casting doubt on her suitability as a presidential candidate.
