Gervonta Davis Speaks On Mayweather ‘Blocking’ Fight?

Gervonta Davis is an absolute tank.

There’s no denying it after witnessing his impressive 11th round knockout over Mario Barrios this past weekend at Atlanta, Georgia’s State Farm Arena.

“Tank” Davis grabbed a title belt in a third weight class with his stoppage of Barrios, improving his flawless professional boxing record to 25-0 (23 KOs) in the process.

Now that the dust has cleared and the smoke has settled on the event itself, the focus at this point appears to be on the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the answer to the ever-present post-fight question of, “So, what’s next?”

In this particular case, thanks to Davis’ promoter, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Mayweather Promotions, it appears that Gervonta will simply showcase his talents against another “in-house fighter” the next time he steps into the squared circle.

“We work smarter not harder,” Mayweather Jr. stated when addressing the future plans for the star pupil in the Mayweather Promotions family.

“Mayweather Promotions, PBC (Premier Boxing Champions), we all one family. We keep everything in house. We’re not gonna go away and make another company great. We’ve got plenty of fighters at 140, 135 and 130. We’re gonna continue to fight the fighters that we’ve got to fight.”

As for the “in-house fighter” that will fight “Tank” Davis next, it appears that Regis Prograis is looking to ensure he gets the assignment, as he called out the Baltimore, Maryland native in a self-recorded video that the former 140-pound champion in his own right released following Davis’ victory over Barrios.

“Good fight Tank, solid opponent but he ain’t me,” Prograis said. “I will f*cking knock you out little boy.”

For his part, Gervonta Davis doesn’t seem to be aware of the heavy criticism he is on the receiving end of thanks, large in part, due to his promoters.

“I don’t see the hate..so what’s the talk about,” wrote Davis via his official Twitter feed in response to the criticism. “I’m just here to do my job..” he added in an additional tweet (see below).

Who do you think Gervonta “Tank” Davis should fight next? Ryan Garcia? Devin Haney? Teofimo Lopez? Vasiliy Lomachenko? Sound off with your thoughts in our Comments section below here at wrestling-edge.com, or by shooting us a tweet with your thoughts @WrestlingEdge.
