GOP Governor Running Third Party Against Trump?

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who recently suspended his bid for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, is now leaving the door open to a potential third-party presidential run, according to a report on Tuesday.

Speaking on “Good Morning America,” Christie acknowledged the possibility of a third-party candidacy, particularly in the context of the organization No Labels considering a “unity” ticket to challenge both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

While Christie admitted that he hadn’t been approached by No Labels about running, he didn’t rule out the idea if approached. He emphasized the need for any potential candidate to see a viable path to securing the 270 electoral votes necessary for victory, suggesting that the current political climate might be conducive to a third-party candidate making a difference.

The former governor’s remarks come after a spirited exchange with the hosts of “The View” in January, during which he faced criticism for his refusal to support either Biden or Trump in a hypothetical matchup. Despite not qualifying for the last GOP primary debate and polling below expectations nationally, Christie’s recent statements indicate a willingness to explore alternative paths to influence the presidential race.

In the meantime, the Nevada Republican primary took place without Trump on the ballot, with voters having the option to select “none of these candidates.” Despite Nikki Haley’s appearance on the ballot, she downplayed the significance of the results, opting not to campaign actively in Nevada.

As speculation swirls about potential contenders and the direction of the GOP, Christie’s openness to alternative avenues for political engagement underscores the fluidity and unpredictability of the current political landscape.
