Mayra Bueno Silva’s victory over Holly Holm at UFC Vegas 77 has been overturned by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) following Bueno Silva’s positive test for ritalinic acid, a major urinary metabolite of the ADHD medication methylphenidate, commonly known as Ritalin. The commission unanimously voted to declare the bout a no-contest, nullifying Bueno Silva’s second-round submission win over Holm.
Bueno Silva, who attributed the positive test to her use of ADHD medication over the past three years, maintained that she had ceased taking the medication before the fight, as she had done on numerous occasions in the past. Expressing confusion over the positive result, she emphasized that the medication was not a banned substance, although its use outside of competition is typically allowed.
As a result of the NAC’s ruling, Bueno Silva, 32, faces a 4.5-month suspension, effective until November 29, as well as a fine amounting to 15 percent of her purse, which totals $11,250. Additionally, she is obligated to cover prosecution fees totaling $314.08 and must undergo supplemental drug testing 30, 15, and three days before her next fight.
