As seen on NXT TakeOver: Portland, Tomasso Ciampa challenged Adam Cole for the NXT Championship in the main event of the show. Ciampa and Cole took each other to their absolute limits in a jaw-dropping match.
However, near the end of the match, Ciampa came very close to dethroning Adam Cole but Johnny Gargano appeared at ringside out of nowhere. Gargano asked Ciampa to take the title and the Blackheart crawled towards his best friend but Gargano snapped and took the title away from him.
Gargano then hit Ciampa with the title which led to Adam Cole taking advantage and securing a pinfall victory over the challenger.
