Prosecutors announced on May 20 that they plan to call several witnesses, including two of Hunter Biden’s former girlfriends, in the upcoming trial against President Joe Biden’s son. One ex-girlfriend will testify that during their relationship from December 2017 to October 2018, she frequently saw Hunter using crack cocaine, reportedly every 20 minutes except when he was asleep.
The other ex-girlfriend, who was in a relationship with Hunter in October 2018, will testify about his drug use and how she and her children found drugs while trying to help him get sober. Additionally, prosecutors plan to call Kathleen Buhle, Hunter’s ex-wife, who divorced him in 2017 but continued to monitor his vehicle for drugs through 2018 to protect their children. Buhle reportedly found drugs or paraphernalia about a dozen times, including crack pipes, which she removed to prevent their daughter from encountering them.
These testimonies aim to establish that Hunter was a drug addict when he falsely claimed he was not an unlawful user of drugs while purchasing a gun on October 23, 2018. Prosecutors allege this enabled him to buy a firearm, a speedloader, and 25 rounds of ammunition. They intend to present photos and videos of Hunter smoking crack as evidence.
Hunter Biden faces charges of making false statements while acquiring a gun and possessing a firearm as a drug user, potentially facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted. Portions of his memoir, detailing his drug addiction, will also be used as evidence. The memoir includes passages where Hunter described himself as someone who could “find crack anytime, anywhere” and was “smoking every fifteen minutes, seven days a week.”
