Hunter Biden recently spoke to Axios in a rare interview and said that he’s well aware of how the country is waiting for him to screw up via Mediate.
It has been noted that Biden revealed to Axios’ Alex Thompson on Monday that his sobriety struggle is a major factor in the reelection campaign of his father, President Joe Biden.
As House Republicans continue to try to tie the younger Biden’s business dealings with the president as part of their floundering effort to impeach him, Hunter Biden knows that no matter what people believe, a lot of eyes are on him. And Republicans love reminding the public that Hunter Biden, despite being sober since 2019 and quite open about his struggles, was once very deep in the throes of addiction.
While maintaining one’s sobriety is a personal battle in and of itself, Biden admitted to Axios, “I often do think of the profound consequences of failure here.”
He continued:
“Maybe it’s the ultimate test for a recovering addict — I don’t know. I have always been in awe of people who have stayed clean and sober through tragedies and obstacles few people ever face. They are my heroes, my inspiration.”
But he added that in the case of his father’s campaign to keep the Oval Office — and keep former President Donald Trump out of it — his sobriety isn’t only about him: “I have something much bigger than even myself at stake. We are in the middle of a fight for the future of democracy.”
