Jamie Foxx has issued an apology for a cryptic Instagram post that some found to be potentially antisemitic. The post featured a black screen with the words “They killed this dude name [sic] Jesus…what do you think they’ll do to you???!” and hashtags #fakefriends and #fakelove. Foxx clarified in his apology that the “they” he was referring to was a “fake friend” who betrayed him, and he emphasized that he only has love and support for everyone, including the Jewish community.
Actress Jennifer Aniston faced backlash for apparently liking Foxx’s post, but she quickly clarified on her Instagram story that it was not intentional and that she does not support any form of antisemitism. She expressed her strong stance against hate of any kind.
While some accepted Foxx’s apology and pointed out that the “they” could refer to any group of people, others were concerned about the potential implications of such content. Hate targeting the Jewish community has been on the rise, with Los Angeles witnessing 237 incidents in 2022, marking a 30 percent increase from the previous year, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
Despite the controversy surrounding his post, Jamie Foxx is preparing for the release of his new movie “Strays,” in which he stars alongside Will Ferrell. The film is set to hit theaters on August 18.
