John Cena ‘Can’t Have Match’ At SummerSlam?

WWE star John Cena recently made his return to the company and soon went in pursuit of WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He said that he needs approval of ‘The Tribal Chief’ before a match between the two men can be made official for WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view on August 21.

John Cena talks about Roman Reigns’ approval

The former 16-time-World Champion made his much-awaited return at WWE Money in the Bank. Cena has repeatedly stated that he wants to challenge for Reigns’ Universal Championship. On last week’s episode of SmackDown, Reigns declined Cena’s request and he rather agreed to face Finn Balor.

Speaking partly in-character, Cena said during an interview on The Rich Eisen Show that Reigns still needs to agree to face him.

“That’s not up to me, that’s up to the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. I went on Monday Night RAW and issued a challenge and kind of said, ‘Hey, I’m here for this,’ but I can’t just jump to the front of the line without the guy who holds the championship saying it’s okay. Friday on SmackDown, he’s more than likely going to have some explaining to do or some things he’d like to say, and we’ll go from there.”

We will have to see how WWE plans for the potential match that has been rumored to take place since months now.
