Vice President Kamala Harris strongly pushed back against Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on President Joe Biden’s handling of sensitive and classified information, criticizing the “integrity” and accuracy of what she deemed a “politically motivated” document, which Donald Trump has used to attack Biden.
Hur’s report, released on Thursday, cleared President Biden of any charges but included damaging comments about his memory and actions. During a press scrum after delivering remarks on the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a reporter asked Vice President Harris about her views on the report, particularly in her capacity as a former prosecutor.
Harris echoed sentiments expressed by Biden and his allies regarding the report’s alleged inaccuracies and inappropriateness. However, her criticism took a more forceful turn as she attacked Hur as a political actor lacking integrity:
REPORTER: As a former prosecutor, do you think the special counsel’s report is fair?
VP KAMALA HARRIS: I’m glad you asked!
Listen, I have been privileged and proud to serve as vice president of the United States with Joe Biden as president of the United States. And what I saw of that report last night, I believe, is, as a former prosecutor, the comments that were made by that prosecutor: gratuitous, inaccurate and inappropriate!
Harris went on to highlight a specific event on October 7th, when Israel experienced a horrific attack. She detailed the intense moments and discussions that followed, emphasizing President Biden’s active involvement in coordinating and directing efforts to address the crisis. Harris argued that the report’s characterization of Biden’s demeanor was factually wrong and politically motivated, describing it as “gratuitous.”
In her critique, Harris stressed the importance of a higher level of integrity from a prosecutor in such situations, suggesting that the report fell short of those expectations. The vice president concluded by thanking the reporter for the question.
Harris’s response underscores the administration’s effort to counter the negative implications of the report, portraying it as biased and inaccurate, particularly in its portrayal of President Biden’s actions during a critical security event.
