Matt Gaetz Blocking Feds From Putting Trump In Jail?

According to Conservative Brief, Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has proposed a legislative plan to protect former President Donald Trump from prosecution and potential conviction in various pending court cases. Gaetz’s plan involves bringing Trump to testify before Congress and granting him immunity in the process, which would prevent any further legal action against him.

During an appearance on TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk’s show, Gaetz explained that Congress has the authority to bring Trump in for testimony and grant him immunity, particularly if there is a supermajority vote within a committee or subcommittee. This process could be used to immunize Trump from potential legal consequences, including being able to plead the Fifth Amendment and avoiding potential obstruction claims.

Gaetz argued that Congress could compel Trump to testify about matters like the alleged witch hunt against him and the alleged abuse of criminal process. By immunizing him for the statements he makes during this testimony, Congress could potentially shield Trump from legal repercussions.

It’s worth noting that immunity from congressional testimony is a complex legal and procedural matter, and the practicality of this plan, as well as its potential consequences, could vary based on legal interpretations and political dynamics. Additionally, the concept of immunity from prosecution is subject to legal limitations and potential challenges.

“You can actually bring President Trump in to give testimony to Congress and, in doing so, immunize him,” Gaetz said.

“Now, there’s different forms of immunity that take place at the committee level, subcommittee level, in some instances for full immunity, you have to have more of a supermajority vote,” he continued. “But if you had a supermajority vote of a committee, like Speaker McCarthy could set up a select committee tomorrow that can bring Trump in and immunize him.

“And then we could proceed with the very legitimate investigative work that we’re doing of the Bidens and the corrupt DOJ,” Gaetz continued. “Unfortunately, none of those things are happening. Instead, Congress is not in Washington, not assembled. And I think the timing is on purpose.

“No timing in DC is ever just a mere coincidence. And so right as Congress is leaving town, right as we’re walking away from our equities, you see this acceleration of activity against Trump,” Gaetz noted further.
