Mitt Romney Says Donald Trump Assaulted…

Senator Mitt Romney clarified his recent meeting with Donald Trump on Capitol Hill, emphasizing to CNN’s Manu Raju that his attendance was not an endorsement of Trump’s presidential candidacy.

“I didn’t go there to support former President Trump. I went there to listen to what he was planning on doing if he became president,” Romney explained to Raju.

The 2012 GOP presidential nominee elaborated on his reservations about Trump’s personal character, particularly highlighting his stance on allegations of sexual assault. Romney stated, “With President Trump, it’s a matter of personal character. You know, I draw a line, and say when someone has been, actually, found to have been sexually assaulting, that’s something I just won’t cross over in the person I would want to have as president of the United States.”

Romney’s remarks seem to reference a recent legal development where Trump was found liable for sexually assaulting columnist E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s. Trump has been ordered to pay significant damages to Carroll in defamation lawsuits related to his public statements about the assault accusation.
