Adam Cole defends the NXT title against Velveteen Dream, Women’s champion Charlotte Flair puts her belt on the line against Io Shirai, Finn Bálor returns to call out his mystery attacker, Karrion Kross debuts with Scarlett Bordeaux by his side, Johnny Gargano goes one-on-one with Dominik Dijakovic, and more!

WWE NXT RESULTS (5/6/2020): WINTER PARK, FL.

NXT Opening

NXT on USA starts off with Tom Phillips standing ringside as he begins announcing tonight’s line-up including Charlotte Flair vs. Io Shirai and Velveteen Dream vs. Adam Cole, and more as he welcomes Mauro Ranallo and Beth Phoenix who will be calling tonight’s matches.

Johnny Gargano vs. Dominik Dijakovic

Ranallo thanks Phillips as the music sounds for Johnny Gargano with new entrance music as well “All Heart, No Soul”. Gargano steps to the stage, then makes his way down the ramp, stopping to run his hand across the NXT emblem on the floor at ringside. Gargano enters the ring, slithering to the turnbuckles with a wicked smile. Ranallo states Gargano is only worried about four letters… TJGW (the Johnny Gargano way).

Dominik Dijakovic is out next as his music sounds in the arena. Dijakovic makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring with awaiting opponent Gargano. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins.

It is noted that Dijakovic has a seventy pound weight advantage. Gargano gets flatten by Dijakovic. Hard strikes by Dijakovic. Gargano bulldozed into the corner of the ring, a barrage of blows by Dijakovic, followed by picking up Gargano and landing a major knee to the ribs of Gargano. Dijakovic throws Gargano like a ragdoll across the ring. Chops to the chest of Gargano.

Gargano leap frogs over Dijakovic, seemingly injuring the knee of Gargano. Gargano stomps Dijakovic in the corner of the ring, taking advantage of the moment. Gargano now taking control in the match as Dijakovic struggles to his feet with the assistance of the ropes. Dijakovic counters with a Clothesline, followed by a Back Press for the cover, Gargano kicks out. Both men back to their feet, Dijakovic with a Lateral Press on Gargano for the pin, Gargano kicks out.

Clubbing Forearm by Dijakovic, who brings Gargano back to his feet just to drop him back to the canvas. Back Elbow by Dijakovic, who lands Gargano on the mat again. Candice LeRae suddenly makes her way down the ramp, arguing with Dijakovic and taking away the attention from Gargano. Gargano back to his feet as Dijakovic sends a warning to LeRae that entering the match won’t be good for her.

Gargano with a sneak attack, knocking Dijakovic over the top rope, falling to ringside at LeRae’s feet. Gargano through the ropes onto Dijakovic. LeRae checks on her husband as we head to our first commercial break!

Back from commercial break, Dijakovic still maintaining control as he lands strikes on Gargano. Both men back in the ring and Dijakovic lands a Cyclone Kick on Gargano, though Dijakovic drops to the mat as well, clearly injured as he holds his knee before getting back to his feet. Gargano on his stomach, reaching out to wife Candice LeRae at ringside. LeRae attempts to pull Gargano towards her as Dijakovic states, “Where are you going?” Dijakovic yanks Gargano away from Dijakovic.

Gargano with a surprise attack on Dijakovic who is looking to LeRae stating, “I told you to stay out of this match!”, grabs a hand full of trunks for the roll up pin attempt of Dijakovic. Gargano comes out of the corner, heading at Dijakovic, who is waiting and lands a Massive Superkick, stunning Gargano. Dijakovic goes for a Power Bomb and once again LeRae is a distraction.

Gargano sneaks to the corner and pulls the turnbuckle cover off and throws Dijakovic into the corner, Dijakovic slamming into the exposed turnbuckle. Gargano heads to the outside of the ropes and lands a DDT, One Final Beat, from the apron for the three count pin and win!

Winner: Johnny Gargano

After the Match

Mr. and Mrs. Gargano celebrate Johnny’s victory over Dominik Dijakovic as Gargano’s new music plays, hugging and smiling. Dijakovic standing at ringside.

A clip is shown from last week’s NXT where Imperium attacked Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher during their Newly Bro-Show hosted by Byron Saxton.

Video Promo

As the video clip from last week ends, Ranallo sends us to a promo of Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner who give an explanation of their actions last week towards Riddle and Thatcher. They state they are the most dominant force in NXT. They add that’s why they couldn’t stand by and watch Matt Riddle and… they pretend to not know Thatcher’s name, and allow them to besmirch the tag-team titles. Aichner then says they are destined to win and they are now “officially” challenging for the NXT Tag Team Titles. The two stand tall to end the segment.

We head to commercial.

Quick Announcement

Cruiserweight Championship Tournament Group B. between Tozawa and Gallagher is mention as we return from commercial break.

Interim NXT Cruiserweight Title Tournament Match
Akira Tozawa (1-0) vs. Jack Gallagher (0-1)

Out first is Akira Tozawa as his music sounds in the Full Sail University arena in Winter Park, Florida. Tozawa makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring. Out next is Gentleman Jack Gallagher (does he still consider himself a gentleman?) as his music plays him down the ramp, towards the ring. Gallagher enters the ring with awaiting opponent Tozawa. The referee signals for the bell.

The bell rings and the match begins. Gallagher heads in immediately, attacking Tozawa with several strikes. Gallagher attempts an early submission move as he locks in an Octopus. Tozawa able to break free, though Gallagher remains in control early on in this match up. Tozawa finally landing a Big German Suplex, sending Gallagher to the outside. Gallagher waits at ringside momentarily to catch his breath.

Gallagher re-enters the ring with Tozawa, Tozawa quickly makes his way to the top turnbuckle, Gallagher back to the outside of the ring. Gallagher remains on the outside as Tozawa drops down from the top, Gallagher however, catches Tozawa. Both men end up on the floor at ringside. Gallagher lands a few good strikes on Tozawa.

Back and forth action between both competitors as they re-enter the ring, Gallagher attempting to gain complete control in the match. Tozawa counters, hitting the Hurricanrana, following up with a Cyclone Kick attempt, to no avail. Both men trade chops back and forth inside the ring and on the apron. Gallagher gets dropped head first onto the apron. Tozawa lands a Senton for the pin and win.

Winner: Akira Tozawa

After the Match

Tozawa stands tall in the ring as he celebrates his (2-0) victory in this tournament. We head to replays…

Ringside Interview

Immediately following the match, Tozawa is interviewed, out of breath. Tozawa states he’s never wrestling his next opponent, Fantasma and doesn’t know him, but he will definitely beat him.

We head to commercial again.

Backstage

Charlotte Flair is seen in her dressing room stretching and preparing for her first title match since the Royal Rumble.

Xia Li vs. Chelsea Green

Back in the arena, Xia Li’s music sounds as she makes her way down the ramp and enters the ring for tonight’s match-up. Out next is, Robert Stone. Stone announces his client, Chelsea Green who is entirely overdressed as she makes her way out to an entrance theme of “ain’t she a monsta?” as she struts towards the ring, entering with awaiting opponent Xia Li. The referee signals for the bell.

The bell rings and the match begins. Oddly enough, Chelsea Green starts things off attacking Xia Li, dropping Li to the canvas. Li ends up in the corner where she gets attacked with several kicks. Li back to her feet, lands a Back Elbow to the face of green.

Aliyah suddenly makes her way out to the stage, heading down the ramp towards the ring, a temporary distraction as the match continues. At one point, Aliyah grabs Li by the leg, Li kicks Aliyah off. Green lands the I’m Prettier for the pin and the three count!

Winner: Chelsea Green

After the Match

Robert Stone re-enters the ring with Chelsea Green as they celebrate the victory and we go to replays.

Backstage

We see Velveteen Dream backstage. Dream states the time has finally come for Adam. Dream’s moment for the NXT title. Dream finishes by stating, “No Adam Cole, it isn’t a dream… it’s more than that. It’s dream-over.” With that, the segment cuts to black.

We head to commercial.

Karrion Kross vs. Leon Ruff

As we return from commercial break, we see a black and white background on the big screen. A bird is flying towards us. A shadowy figure is there. It’s Scarlett. Karrion Kross comes out and stands in front of her, leading her down the ramp. Scarlett steps in front of Karrion as she sings along with the entrance theme, “The end is here. Fall and pray. Fall and pray. Fall and praaayyyyy!!” Smoke surrounds Karrion Kross as he enters the ring. Kross makes an “X” with his forarms, lights strobbing around him as Scarlett kneels in front of Kross, the two pose inside the ring. Mauro states, “Tick Tock.”

The lights return and we see opponent Leon Ruff and the referee already standing inside the ring. The referee signals for the bell. The bell rings and the match officially begins. Kross immediately charges across the ring, slamming Ruff back onto his head/neck with a Doomsday Saito. Kross stares at Ruff. Kross lands another massive Doomsday Saito. Kross then drops Ruff with a Kross Jacket submission, Ruff taps.

Winner: Karrion Kross

After the Match

Pretty wicked how the smoke was still clearing throughout the match, looking like the match took place in some sort of lair. Karrion and Scarlett have arrived. We head to commercial break.

Backstage

As we return from commercial break, Matt Riddle and Timothy Thatcher are asked about last week’s attack by Imperium. Riddle says the destroyed Newly Bros Show was a tragedy. Riddle agrees to the challenge by Imperium as long as Thatcher is down. Thatcher agrees, stating he’s down for knocking out Imperium.

NXT Women’s Title Match
Charlotte Flair vs. Io Shirai

Out first is Io Shirai as her music sounds and she makes her way down the ramp and enters the ring, awaiting her opponent and current NXT Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair. Shirai doesn’t have long to wait as Flair’s music sounds next and Flair makes her way down the ramp in her long glittery robe, entering the ring with her arms extended. The referee signals for the bell. The bell rings and the match begins.

Flair and Shirai with a strong back and forth game as the match begins. Sharai with fast paced action, Flair asking her if she thinks she’s fast. Flair continues to taunt Shirai as she sends her into the turnbuckles. Flair lands massive chops on Shirai. Flair levels Shirai as she makes her way out of the corner. Flair continues to dominate the match as we head into commercial.

As we return from commercial breaks Shirai is still giving her all to attempt to turn it around. Shirai gets Flair to the top, Shirai lands a Frankensteiner on Flair followed by a pin attempt, Flair is able to kick out at two. Flair goes to the top for a Moonsault, missing Shirai. Shirai counters with a 619 followed by Running Double Knees in the corner o Flair. Shirai goes for the pin once again, again Flair kicks out at two.

Shirai continues to maintain control, Shirai goes for a Moonsault, Flair is able to get her knees up, slowing down Shirai. Shirai fights out of a Power Bomb attempt by Flair. Shirai sends Flair face-first into the turnbuckle.Flair grabs a kendo stick from under the ring and begins attacking Shirai for the Disqualification!

Winner By Disqualification: Io Shirai

After the Match

Flair retains the title as the referee calls for the bell. Flair continues to attack Shirai’s knee at ringside. Flair pulls Shirai into the steel steps. “Poor sportsmanship at it’s best” from commentary! Rhea Ripley for the save out of nowhere! Ripley’s first appearance since Wrestlemania 36!

Rhea Ripley’s Return

Rhea Ripley continues to dominate Flair, dragging her back into the ring. Flair retreats. Ripley wants to know where Flair is going, asking her to come back and fight. At this point, Shirai re-enters the ring, screaming something in Japanese at Ripley.Ripley tells Shirai to shut up as she exits.

We go to commercial.

Kushida vs. Jake Atlas

As we return from commercial break, Kushida’s music sounds as he makes his way down the ramp, entering the ring. Out next is Jake Atlas as his music sounds in the arena. Atlas makes his way down the ramp, entering the ring with awaiting opponent Kushida. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings, the match begins.

Lots of fast paced action to start this match between Kushida and Atlas. Kushida with a Somersault Senton whiping out Atlas from the top, hitting Atlas hard. Kushida with a Hip Toss, followed by a cartwheel, finally landing a Basement Drop Kick on Atlas. Kushida with multiple kicks and strikes. Atlas slows down Kushida with a Massive Kick, followed by a Step Up Inzuguri for the pin attempt. Kushida kicks out.

Both men back to their feet, Atlas with a flip of his own heading into a Neck Breaker on Kushida. Kushida and Atlas go back and forth with acrobatic moves. Kushida ultimately lands the submission as he hooked the Arm Bar mid-air for the win!

Winner: Kushida

After the Match

Kushida celebrates his victory and is asked about his current position in the tournament. Kushida says he will be the victory, ending as he states “Time will tell”.

We head to commercial.

Finn Balor Promo

As we return from commercial break, we are welcomed by the entrance music of Finn Balor in the Full Sail University arena. Balor makes his way to the podium where he states he thought the biggest snakes in the business were the suits. Balor states now he’s not so sure. Balor then adds that any competitor may have lights and lazers as they make their entrance to the ring, but once they’re in the the ring, they’ve entered the ring with “The Prince”. Balor continues on to state he is a patient man, but whoever attacked him may think they’re getting the push… but they are getting the squash.

Cameron Grimes vs. Denzel Dejournette

Both competitors make their way to the ring for this non-title singles match. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins. Grimes immediately goes for the Cave-In, which Dejournette pushes away. Dejournette hit a Suplex on Grimes, Grimes hits Dejournette with the Cave-in, this time connecting for the win in less than a minute.

Winner: Cameron Grimes

After the Match

Cameron Grimes celebrates his victory over Dejournette in the ring as he takes a mic and begins to speak. He states it’s “Grimes Time”. Grimes notes someone beat him to the punch on attacking Balor. Grimes adds he would love to smack Balor in the face. Grimes continues to rant about himself, until Balor appears next to him. Grimes stutters as Balor dares Grimes to follow up on his words, smack him in the face. Balor even lightly shoves Grimes. Grimes still backs down. Finally Grimes pretends to walk away then attempts to lunge at Balor who immediately takes Grimes down to the canvas. Grimes quickly exits the ring, heading backstage.

Balor’s them plays him out.

Video Package

A video package is aired highlighting the events leading up to the match-up between Velveteen Dream and Adam Cole.

Velveteen Dream vs. Adam Cole

Out first is Velveteen Dream as his music sounds in the arena. Dream makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring where he awaits his opponent in the title match main event. Out next is Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole as his music sounds in the arena. Day 340 of Adam Cole’s reign as NXT Champion is noted as Cole makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring. Both competitors are formally announced, the bell rings, and the match begins.

Dream heads at Cole immediately as the bell rings, Cole shoves Dream into the corner of the ring, the referee shouting to Cole to be easy. The match quickly heads to the outside of the ring. Dream shoves Cole into the stairs on the outside. Dream rolls Cole back into the ring. A Superkick followed by a Spine Buster by Cole onto Dream followed by a cover. Cole makes his way to the top turnbuckle, Dream strikes, Cole then holding on with one hand and a leg wrap. Dream and Cole back in the ring, Dream goes for the cover, Cole kicks out at two as we head to our final commercial break.

As we return from commercial break, Cole lands a Back Stabber on Dream in the center of the ring. Cole lifts Dream in the Fireman’s Carry, Dream counters with an Elbow. Back and forth finisher attempts, Cole goes for the cover, Dream kicks out at two. Cole looks into Dream’s eyes stating, “You’re a nobody!” Fist strikes back and forth as both men make their way back to their feet. Cole rocks Dream with a hard right hand.

Dream with a Super kick, followed by the cover. Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong head down the ramp, Dexter Lumis appears from under the apron. The referee is taken out. Fish takes out Lumis. Purple Rainmaker by Dream as Cole is down, but no referee!!! Dream attempts to wake the referee. Dream to the top, wipes out everyone on outside. Cole with Last Shot for the three count and retains the title!

Winner: Adam Cole
