Former President Trump is set to join in for an interview ahead of Super Bowl LVIII this weekend after President Biden declined the traditional sit-down.
“Crooked Joe Biden has just announced that he will not be doing the big Super Bowl Interview,” Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, wrote Monday on his Truth Social website. “A great decision, he can’t put two sentences together. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE HIM – would be “RATINGS GOLD!”
The network confirmed over the weekend that the White House declined to make Biden available for an interview before the big game.
The sitting president has typically participated in an interview with the news division of the network broadcasting the Super Bowl, though both Biden and Trump have previously skipped it.
Last year, Biden declined to sit for an interview with Fox News, and Trump decided against participating in an interview with NBC in 2018.
This year’s Super Bowl, held Sunday in Las Vegas between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, is expected to be watched by tens of millions of people around the world.
The relationship between Joe Biden and Donald Trump has been marked by political rivalry and contrasting ideologies. Their interactions have often been characterized by heated debates, both during the 2020 presidential campaign and while Trump was in office.
However, there have also been moments of cooperation, such as the transition of power, where Trump eventually conceded defeat. As former presidents, they now navigate a unique position where their interactions continue to shape the political landscape, with Biden seeking to reverse many of Trump’s policies while maintaining a semblance of national unity.
