Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci recently told CNN on Friday that according to him, former President Donald Trump has never “read a book,” he “knows about Mein Kampf” and knows his comments are a “dog whistle” via Mediaite.
During an interview with Scaramucci on CNN NewsNight, host Abby Phillip brought up Trump’s repeated comments about migrants poisoning the blood of the country and asked, “This is something that Trump keep saying over and over again. We know it was lifted from Hitler. Why does he keep saying it?”
Scaramucci — who famously served in Trump’s White House for just a week and a half — told Phillip:
Listen, it’s a total dog whistle for him, and you’re right, I only spent 11 days in the White House, but I worked on the campaign for Mr. Trump for about nine-and-a-half months. I did 71 campaign stops on that campaign, and so he knows exactly what he’s doing. He puts things out there, sort of with a forked tongue. He’ll say one thing and say, “Oh geez, I didn’t realize that that was from that,” but he does know that it’s from that.
Scaramucci continued, “Abby, he knows exactly what he’s doing, it is very premeditated, and he always gives that forked tongue spiel to somebody else later on after he has dropped the bomb.”
Reacting to Trump’s insistence on Friday that he is “not a student of Hitler” and has never read Mein Kampf, Scaramucci said, “Somebody wrote that for him and knew that Hitler said it, put it in the speech. I do believe him that he has not read Mein Kampf, okay? Because I don’t think this guy has ever read a book.”
Scaramucci went on to say that “the joke” on Trump’s campaign was “that he’s written more books than he’s read, so I’m sure he didn’t read Mein Kampf, but he knows about Mein Kampf.”
“You can ask General Kelly,” he continued. “He told General Kelly that he thought Hitler’s generals were very loyal to him, and then it was pointed out that there were two or three coup d’etat’s and a bomb explosion in 1944. Mr. Trump didn’t know that, the president didn’t know that, but he knows what he’s doing, okay? He knows that this is a dog whistle, he knows he has a base, some of them of which are white supremacists, some of them are actually very good people.”
