TDS [015] – Dude, Where’s My Push At? The Orton File

What’s poppa lockin’ folks? Hopefully all is good out there in ReaderLand. Today, The Mach Man Randy Savage had a heart attack while at the wheel. Truly a sad day here in the IWC. While I should surely be here with a Randy Savage tribute column, I’m not. Truth be told, I’ve never seen a Savage match, nor anything other than occasional photo posted on these very sites. I, personally, blame it on the WWE. If I hadn’t started to visit wrestling sites such as this one a few years ago, then I’d have no clue who exactly “Macho Man” was. So, instead of paying tribute to him tonight, I’ve decided to give you folks a break from the Macho coverage (see what I did there?). That’s right, I’m bringing back the “Dude, Where’s My Push At?” format. So, without any further ado, Rest In Peace Randy Savage.

At WrestleMania 26, Randy Orton beat his former Legacy partners in a Triple Threat match. At the conclusion of said match, he punted Cody Rhodes in the head, thus putting him out of action for an allotted amount of time. Many people pointed the reasoning to be that Ted DiBiase was in line for a major push. He soon adopted his father’s Millionaire gimmick and even went ahead and claimed the Million Dollar Championship. As time went on, so did Ted’s push. He eventually aligned himself with Maryse, and that is where it all started to go downhill. Ted caught some momentum and was included in the Money in the Bank match. After that, though, he slowly became nothing but an under booked jobber. Evidently, he did something backstage to piss someone off, because I, along with a large portion of the IWC, thought that Ted was going to be a World Champion by year-end in 2010. It was not meant to be apparently. In the 2011 WWE Draft Ted got drafted to Smackdown and he now finds himself on the same show as former stable mates Cody and Randall. Maybe this is a sign of bigger things? Hopefully, because Ted is a talent that has us asking the same ole question. Dude, What Happened To Ted DiBiase’s Push?

Back in 2007, Mr. Kennedy was without much doubt, one of the fastest rising youngsters in the WWE. He had opportunity after opportunity to reach the main event, yet never did. He even had a nice lengthy feud with the legendary Undertaker. As we all know, Taker only feuds with the guys HE wants to feud with. Having Taker’s blessing was a great step forward. Oh, and did I mention that Ken is close friends with Stone Cold. Yes, Stone Cold as in Stone Cold Steve Austin. It went as far as Steve being the mentor of Ken Kennedy. I believe they still have that bond to this day. Needless to say, Ken had serious potential and all the connections for him to go far. Problem was, he couldn’t stay healthy. Along with that he had HORRIBLE  luck. In 2009, he was set for yet another return from injury. Hype videos aired and when he finally returned he was place in a high profile match with the likes of none other than Randall Orton. Late in the match Ken botched a move with Orton, and to say the least, Randall was NOT happy. Two days later and Ken finds himself on the Future Endeavors list. What an abrupt end to a guy the WWE put a lot into hyping up. Many people were asking the same thing. Dude, What Happened With Ken Kennedy’s Push?

In late 2009 Kofi Kingston had built himself up quite the following. He was a popular guy to fans of all likes. Vince and co. began to recognize this and thus followed through with pushing him. He entered into a high profile feud with Randall and co. that he came out on top of. At the end of 2009 many people were predicting him to go ahead and win the upcoming Royal Rumble. He got a chance early for a World title, though. He was placed in a Triple Threat match to determine the number one contender for the title at the Rumble. In this very match, Kofi botched a move on Randall and it was evident very quickly that he was not happy. Not many people took it as anything, though, although, people DID recognize it. As time went on, Kofi’s push was non-existent. He was being fed to the upper-echelon of the main event week-after-week, and didn’t see anything that resembled a push. As the draft came and went he was moved back to Smackdown and was quickly given the Intercontinental title. He held it on for quite some time before handing it off to another up and comer in Dolph Ziggler. Many people thought this signaled his re-emergance into the main event scene, but it never happened as he continued to flounder in the mid-card before eventually being given the Intercontinental title yet again. He would go on to hold for a while heading into WrestleMania before once again losing it to another in between getting buried by the upper-echelon of the main event. To top that all off, he was a last minute addition to a cluster-fuck tag team match. Once the draft came he was drafted back to Raw and quickly given the United States title. Whenever he does give up that strap people will call for his emergence into the main event again. Once again we all ask the same thing, though. Dude, What Ever Happened To All The Pushes Kofi Kingston Has Received?

These three stories all resemble each other very much. If it wasn’t clear by the title, or the constant name droppings, the here it is. Randall Orton emerged in each of these stories. For one, his presence has been needed to keep a push. For the other two, it spelled either departure, or a lost presence. What do you fine folks think? Is Randall nothing but a pest to up and comer’s? Or is this all just a big mis-understanding? Let me know, folks. It’s always appreciated!
