ToT [62] – WrestleMania 27 Predictions

Send any thoughts my way at: [email protected]

The last pay per view that I did a prediction column was way back at the original Money in the Bank. That very pay per view I predicted that The Miz would win the ladder match and be on the fast track to a World Championship. I may have been wrong with my prediction that he’d wait six months to cash in, but I was only a month. Now, fast forward to now, and Miz is going in to WrestleMania as the WWE Champion. What a circle of life it is, aye?

In the five pay per views that I’ve previewed I’m 22-14-2. That’s a whopping 57%. After tonight, though, I’ll be up to 65%. Yeah, do the math, you’ll figure that one out. So, with that said, let’s get on with it, me matey!

The Crystal Ball

United States Championship Match
Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan

After reading all the recent news post around, I have came to the conclusion that this match will probably end up as nothing more than a glorified filler match. Don’t get me wrong, though, this match-up is one that has potential to steal the show. There’s just one problem; the E doesn’t have it that high on the priority list. Common wrestling sense says that Daniel Bryan will win back the title given Sheamus’ recent dominance. I don’t see that happening here, though. Sheamus instantly brings credibility to the United States title. You’d not only bury the title with a Sheamus win, but Sheamus himself would get buried again…Sheamus for 7/10

Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole with special referee “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
Michael Cole is quickly becoming Vincent Kennedy McMahon Jr. That said, who else is behind this feud getting over as quick as possible? All in favor say I!…Jerry Lawler for 10/10

Rey Mysterio vs. Cody Rhodes
Cody has been on absolute fire lately. His character has hit very good strides to date, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him challenging for a World title in the next few months. The problem I have with this match is Rey Mysterios track record of burying talent. I guess, though, since Rey hand picked Cody to be his opponent that it means Rey wants to help get Cody over. Honestly, that would be the best thing Rey could ever do. If he went into this match, and let Cody dismantle him, and absolutely man handle him the entire match like Cody’s done in recent weeks to jobber, then I’d be happy. Rey’s spoken of retiring in the next few years so it’d be a jolly thing for him to put somebody over before he goes out…Cody Rhodes for 6/10

Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella and Kofi Kingston vs. Ezekiel Jackson, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett
If Vince wants to take any good out of last years June 7th happenings then The Corre HAS to get the W here. There’s just nothing that benefits from them losing. I mean it wouldn’t be all that far fetched to see Ezekiel Jackson as World Heavyweight Champion the week after Mania. They’ve pulled it off in past years, why not this year, too? Despite that, I can’t see Big Show’s fat ass putting over this group. He is, after all, the same guy that single handedly buried the Straight Edge Society last summer…Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston for 8/10

John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki vs. Dolph Ziggler and Lay-Cool
I’ve heard many, many complaints from you guys about Snooki’s involvement in this match. Really? Your pissed because you think she’s going to wrestle a 20 minute match? First off, that’s asinine. There is no way in hell she’ll see more than a minute tops in the ring. I’d guarantee that she will get the pin. But believe me, this match is going to be headlined by Dolph, and Morrison’s storytelling…John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki for 10/10

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk
I applaud the creative team for bringing up the unresolved issues between these two from 2008. It’s safe to say that I’m astounded they’d be able to remember stuff from that far back. Again, the common wrestling sense says that Punk will come out with the W. But again, I don’t think it’ll go down that way. Randy Orton is with out a doubt one of the hottest products Vince has right now. The fans love him, and he’s seriously primed to be the Austin of the next Golden Age. In Vince’s mind, that warrants Orton the right to put the final knife in New Nexus’s life. No matter how badly CM Punk needs this victory, it just wouldn’t seem right for him to get it. It’s just the way the E chooses to book him. I badly want Punk to be victorious…Randy Orton for 9/10

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio

In my latest outing, I said that Alberto was to young to win the World Championship. What I meant by that is that he’s been on the WWE main roster for a little over 6 months. That’s just too early. Sheamus got pushed to that level that fast, and you see how he’s fending now. He needs to look strong here, and come up just short. After that he has to enter a few feuds and dominate them. Undertaker vs. Alberto Del Rio at SummerSlam with him getting the win would be an excellent end to his building up. Then give him the World title. All of these elements along with Edge being on the final leg of his career makes it all the more likely that Edge will get his shining moment in the sun by retaining. He won’t be champion for long after WrestleMania… Edge for 6/10

No Holds Barred Match
The Undertaker vs. Triple H

Would it surprise anybody if these two follow the same exact format they used for their WrestleMania X-7 match? It wouldn’t surprise me at all. The fact that they haven’t been wrestling on the house show circuit worries me a bit here. I guess it wouldn’t be all that surprising to find out that they’ve been doing simulations behind the scenes, though. I fear this may be a dud, but I’m confident it’ll be a highlight of the show. Let’s just pray it isn’t the main event…Undertaker for 10/10

WWE Championship Match
The Miz vs. John Cena

One good thing that comes with a healthy main event is the unpredictability factor. Who’s to know if Rock comes out and sides with Cena? There is honestly fifteen different scenarios I can see playing out. That is a very good thing, and makes it easily ten times more suitable to be the main event rather than Undertaker vs. Triple H where I can see one scenario playing out. In the end, though, I can see Rock costing John Cena the belt, and Miz retaining. If Cena becomes a ten time champion tonight, I may riot. Can you say awesome?…The Miz for 6/10

Sparty’s Verdict
The fact that there is 5 matches on the card with a confidence factor of above 8/10 says that this is a fairly predictable pay per view. Hold you horses, though, as that tells a much different story than what is going to be presented. I wouldn’t be all to surprised if some of those “predictable” matches surprised me with an upset. Overall, if I had the cash right now, I’d order this. Depending on the results tonight, I will probably make this the first WWE DVD purchase that Sparty has made in over three years.

How about you guys? How do you see this card playing out? Do you think the Streak will be broken? What role do you think The Rock will have? Do you think a Cena heel turn will occur?
