In a fervent critique captured during the scrutiny of the New York Attorney General’s recently unveiled deposition tape, conservative legal luminary George Conway unleashed a torrent of invective directed at former President Donald Trump.
The ex-president underwent an extensive seven-hour deposition last year as part of his civil fraud case, with the video made public by NY Attorney General Letitia James under the Freedom of Information Act.
MSNBC’s Alicia Menendez probed Conway on his perspective regarding Trump’s approach to legal proceedings. Conway’s response was emphatic: “There is no strategy! Everybody talks about him having a strategy. It’s like that obscure quote I recall from an administration official who said, ‘He’s not playing 17-dimensional chess; he’s eating the pieces.’”
Incidentally, the original quote surfaced in Buzzfeed back in 2018: “The former official said he doesn’t think Trump is playing ‘the sort of three-dimensional chess people ascribe to decisions like this. More often than not, he’s just eating the pieces.”
Conway expounded further:
“And that’s precisely what he’s doing in the Carroll case. There is no strategy. He’s a psychopath; he’s a sociopath, and if you scrutinize the diagnostic criteria for a sociopath, they’re purely impulsive. He acts instinctively. He possesses no genuine intellect. His intellect is, in a sense, reptilian. He operates within a limited repertoire: bullying and lying; that’s essentially the crux of it.”
Menendez raised the issue of Trump pleading the fifth in other trials. Conway responded, “He doesn’t relish testifying under oath because he lacks control, especially in a courtroom setting. Hence, for all the nonsensical and performative antics he’s engaged in during this trial in New York, dismissing claims and making baseless comments, it’s like, ‘Okay, dude, you could have testified under oath initially, but you didn’t even bother to show up.’”
Trump, branding Conway as the ex-husband of his advisor Kellyanne Conway, has disparaged him as “mentally ill” and “a total loser.”
