It has been noted that supporters of former President Donald Trump recently jeered and shouted down a reporter who asked Trump if he supports a six-week abortion ban, and drowned out a question about Israel via Mediaite.
It is no secret that Trump has been dodging about abortion, publicly decrying bans like Florida’s six-week restriction as bad politics while privately favoring a ban that results in a “round number.”
Well-sourced Trumpworld reporter Maggie Haberman reported that Trump has said “Know what I like about 16 (weeks)? It’s even. It’s four months.”
However, Trump was not close to planting a flag when he gave a speech in Grand Rapids, Michigan Tuesday on the issue of immigration.
As he wrapped up, a reporter tried to pin him down while also invoking the Supreme Court justices who made up the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade.
Supporters jeered and chanted, while Trump made the familiar-sounding promise to reveal a policy “next week”:
REPORTER: Mr. President, do you support the six-week abortion ban like the four Supreme Court Justices —
TRUMP FAN: Come on!
CROWD: BOO!
DONALD TRUMP: We’ll be making a statement next week on abortion. We’re going to make a statement next week. Thank you.
CROWD: USA! USA! USA!
OFFICER ON STAGE: God bless you, sir!
OFFICER ON STAGE: God bless you, sir!
REPORTER: What would you tell Prime Minister Netanyahu —
CROWD: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!
TRUMP FAN: SHUT UP!
The six-week ban signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will come into play in November when voters in Florida get to decide whether to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.
In a statement Tuesday, the Biden-Harris campaign blasted Trump on the issue, writing, “This November, reproductive freedom is on the ballot and unlike Donald Trump, President Biden trusts women to make their own decisions when it comes to their reproductive health. President Biden and Vice President Harris plan to do whatever it takes to restore Roe as the law of the land and ensure women have access to the care they need and deserve.”
