A video shows that Donald Trump snubbed Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia, as seen below.
In a recent development, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, has launched an effort to defund Special Counsel Jack Smith’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump. The former president is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday for charges related to retaining classified documents after leaving the White House in January 2021. The indictment alleges that Trump possessed government material containing sensitive information regarding defense and weapons capabilities, nuclear programs, potential vulnerabilities to military attacks, and plans for retaliation.
On Monday, Greene took to the House floor to announce her plan to attach a rider to an appropriations bill, aiming to strip funding for Smith’s office. Jack Smith was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in November, taking over an existing Department of Justice investigation into Trump. Greene characterized the prosecution as a weaponized government attempt to target Trump, who she identifies as the leading presidential candidate of the United States.
Asserting that Trump’s prosecution is politically motivated, the former president himself has claimed innocence and maintained that the charges are part of a concerted effort against him. The indictment alleges that Trump stored classified documents at various locations within his Mar-a-Lago residence and includes recordings of him stating that he cannot classify some of the material since he is no longer in office. This contradicts Trump’s previous statements in which he claimed to have declassified all the material in his possession. Furthermore, the indictment alleges that Trump sought to impede the Department of Justice’s efforts to retrieve the documents.
Greene’s efforts to defund the special counsel’s office stem from her belief that the government is being weaponized for political purposes. She called on her colleagues to support her endeavor, emphasizing the need to use the power of appropriations to halt the perceived weaponization of government. Additionally, Greene pointed out what she considers to be true crimes committed by Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. She referenced classified documents found on Anthony Weiner’s laptop, for which Clinton was investigated by the FBI, and insinuated that Biden’s documents are improperly stored in his garage next to his Corvette.
“Today I’d like to announce I’m writing an appropriations rider to defund Jack Smith’s special counsel, his office, and the investigation,” the congresswoman said. “This is a weaponized government attempt to take down the top political enemy and leading presidential candidate of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
We cannot allow the government to be weaponized for political purposes,” Greene continued. “I’d also like to ask all of my colleagues to join me in this effort. We have to use the power of appropriations to stop the weaponization of government, especially in light that we know that there are others who are guilty of true crimes.
