Former President Donald Trump had hoped that his endorsement would help Kevin McCarthy secure the votes he needs to become House Speaker. However, it seems that it’s not going to work with one of the most adamant holdouts. It was previously noted that the former president was mocked by Matt Gaetz. A Truth social post had urged Republicans to end their congressional deadlock and back McCarthy’s bid for the speakership. However, his 11th hour plea failed to sway Congressman Matt Gaetz(R-FL), who told Fox News he still has no intention to fall in line behind McCarthy.
“Sad!” Gaetz said in a statement to Fox, mocking Trump. “This changes neither my view of McCarthy nor Trump nor my vote.”

Trump was laughed out of the room when he garnered a single vote amid a heated struggle for the coveted post of speaker in the US House of Representatives. It has been noted that the speaker’s chair has been lying vacant for three days straight after Republican leader Kevin McCarthy failed to win enough votes from his party to seize the chamber’s gavel after multiple rounds of voting.
The House can elect whoever it wants to serve as speaker, even if it’s someone who isn’t a member of Congress. Trump, on his part, is bidding to return to the White House and does not harbor speakership ambitions.
But in what’s being seen as a stunt by a faction of anti-McCarthy GOP leaders, Donald Trump’s name was fielded. When he secured one vote.
