According to Mediaite, former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to engage in some pointed commentary about his Republican primary rival, Ron DeSantis. Trump’s focus was on the type of footwear DeSantis had worn during his appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher in September.
Trump’s post on Truth Social featured three screenshots from DeSantis’ appearance on the show, with particular attention given to his boots. The post included the caption, “Tell me he’s not wearing hidden heels,” and showcased zoomed-in images of DeSantis’ cowboy boots.
One of the images even included a yellow line drawn over DeSantis’ leg, seemingly to suggest where his foot might be in relation to the heel of the boot. These images appeared to have originated from a TikTok video that sought to argue that DeSantis had been wearing high-heeled boots during his appearance on Bill Maher’s show.
During the show, Maher had made a comment about DeSantis’ choice of cowboy boots with a suit, quipping, “Let’s face it Ron, if this campaign was going well, you wouldn’t be on this show.”
The debate over whether Ron DeSantis wears high-heeled boots to enhance his height has been a topic of contention among both Trump and DeSantis supporters. In the past, publications like Slate have published articles suggesting that DeSantis “embraces the high heel” and alleging that he prefers boots with a higher, slanted heel that is typically associated with riding horses.
Additionally, an unnamed former DeSantis staffer claimed to Vanity Fair last year that it was DeSantis’ wife, Casey DeSantis, who was responsible for him wearing the cowboy boots, as she believed they contributed to his image.
