Former President Donald Trump recently talked about Cuba’s food shortage, which prompted rare protests in the country this week via Mediaite.
In a video that was posted on Truth Social on Friday, the presumptive Republican nominee acknowledged the situation in the communist country and dropped hints that if elected again, he would attempt to initiate regime change in the island nation 90 miles off the southern tip of Florida.
“I want to express my admiration and support for all of the brave people of Cuba, who are standing up against the vile communist regime,” he began. “It’s not easy and we appreciate it. And it’s gonna be changed.”
As president, Trump reversed an Obama-era policy that had eased travel and commercial restrictions on Cuba.
“Under my administration, we will return to being very strong on the oppressors unlike crooked Joe Biden, who has been very weak on the communists,” Trump continued. “I stand with the Cuban people. He does not stand with them. He doesn’t care about them. He couldn’t care less.”
Trump is popular among Cuban Americans, which is not surprising as most of them identified as Republicans in 2020. The former president then called on Cuba to hold “free and fair elections.”
“Our country has some problems with that also, by the way,” he added.
Trump had falsely claimed the 2020 election was stolen from him. In the weeks following the contest, he tried to overturn the results in states he lost. For those efforts, he is under criminal indictment in two jurisdictions and faces indictment in two others on unrelated matters.
