Former President Donald Trump recently urged the Texas Supreme Court to let the state’s embattled attorney general, Ken Paxton (R), to skip out on a scheduled deposition for a wrongful termination lawsuit on Tuesday.
“The great Supreme Court of Texas now has a big choice to make. Enough time and money has been wasted forcing Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, to defend himself, instead of defending our broken Southern Border, which is under continual siege,” declared Trump on Truth Social. “He has already been fully acquitted in the Impeachment Hoax. End the Politicization and Abuse of our Justice System, restore Law and Order and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
By a vote of 121-23 in the Texas House of Representatives last spring, Paxton was impeached. Paxton’s request for all charges to be dismissed was later roundly rejected by the Texas Senate, albeit they were ultimately unable to convict him and remove him from office. Although Paxton’s wife is a senator from Texas, she was not allowed to vote in her husband’s impeachment.
In response to four whistleblowers who claim they were fired from Paxton’s office for raising concerns about his actions, the attorney general has asked the Lone Star State Supreme Court to reverse an appellate ruling requiring Paxton to give a deposition.
Paxton is a longtime loyalist to Trump who led the infamous lawsuit asking the United States Supreme Court to invalidate sixty-two electoral votes for President Joe Biden after the 2020 presidential election and throw the election to the incumbent. He also delivered a speech at the rally preceding the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
