Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently posted on social media Monday morning that she and her family were “just swatted” via Mediaite.
“This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here. My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn’t have to deal with this. I appreciate them so much and my family and I are in joyous spirits celebrating the birth of our savior Jesus Christ!”
“Greene did not elaborate on the alleged incident, but swatting typically involves a prank caller who falsely reports a violent crime to police with the goal of getting heavily-armed SWAT teams to respond to someone’s home,” Forbes reported.
Forbes continued:
Greene has been swatted in the past, including at least twice in August 2022, and posted on X in October 2022 that she had been swatted for “the 6th time.” In that post, Greene called swatting “a very serious crime (in which) the caller wants to have their victim murdered by police,” and said it is “a giant abuse of police resources and time.” Swatting is rare, but it has occasionally resulted in death if police mount a large-scale response to a fake criminal call.
One of the August incidents at Greene’s home reported on by The Rome News Tribune detailed the perpetrators’ methods:
According to a Rome Police Department report, police officers responded to a 911 call on Wednesday at 01:03 a.m. that led them to initially believe a man who had been shot multiple times was in the bathtub at Greene’s home. The caller also stated there was a woman inside the home and possibly children with her. When officers arrived, Greene assured them there was no issue at the home.
“After we cleared the call and went back in service, Rome-Floyd 911 received a call from the suspect, claiming responsibility for the incident and explaining his/her motives,” the report stated. “It was a computer generated voice. They explained they were upset about Ms. Greene’s stance on ‘trans-gender youth’s rights,’ and stated they were trying to ‘swat’ her.”
I was just swatted.
