Following the remarkable upset at UFC 285, where Alexa Grasso shocked the world by submitting the long-reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko, UFC president Dana White initially remained noncommittal about the possibility of a rematch. However, recent developments suggest that he has now made a decision.

During a post-fight news conference after UFC Fight Night 224, White addressed reporters and revealed that the promotion is actively working on arranging a rematch between Grasso and Shevchenko as the next title fight in the division. He stated, “We’re working on that, too. That’s one of the fights we’re definitely working on right now.”

While White did not provide specific details regarding the timeline or location for the anticipated rematch, it is evident that the UFC is determined to make this highly anticipated bout a reality.

Grasso, with an impressive professional record of 16 wins and 3 losses (8-3 UFC), claimed the UFC women’s flyweight championship in the fourth round of her title fight against Shevchenko on March 4. As a considerable underdog with average betting odds of +180 across major online sportsbooks (according to BestFightOdds), Grasso’s victory sent shockwaves throughout the MMA world.

Furthermore, Grasso’s triumph over Shevchenko ended the former champion’s dominant reign over the division since December 2018. Shevchenko had successfully defended her title against numerous challengers, showcasing her exceptional skills and establishing herself as one of the most formidable fighters in the flyweight division.

Although the rematch between Grasso and Shevchenko is highly anticipated, it is worth noting that several other top contenders are vying for a shot at the title. Notably, Manon Fiorot, Taila Santos, and Erin Blanchfield, who are all within striking distance of title contention, currently have no scheduled fights. Their impressive performances and potential make them strong candidates to challenge for the UFC women’s flyweight championship in the future.
