WWE Cancel Two Top WrestleMania 38 Matches

WWE Hall Of Famer ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin’s feud with The Rock has gone down in history as one of the most iconic feuds in all of professional wrestling. Their feud ended at WrestleMania 19 in 2003, which was Steve Austin’s final match as an in-ring competitor. It was the third match at WrestleMania in their feud. Steve Austin and The Rock Smackdown return also leaked previously.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Steve Austin has yet to agree to a match and that WWE has the Austin and Kevin Owens segment booked as a “confrontation.”

“The big thing was they wanted Vince and they wanted Austin because they’ve got a lot of tickets to sell, and Pat McAfee vs Austin Theory is not going to be selling a lot of tickets. And Steve Austin and Kevin Owens is, you know, they will have a confrontation, but it is not clear if that will be a match or not anymore. It’s essentially up to Austin at this point.

They want the match, they thought they had the match, and, you know, Steve, there’s a reason he hasn’t wrestled for 19 years. I just know that as of Friday he had not agreed to do the match even though it was on the books. Now, it’s on the books as a confrontation.”

On the other hand, Cody was one of the highlights of AEW television as he immediately made an impact in the company. In fact, he even competed in the first-ever match on AEW Dynamite against Sammy Guevara, which he won. In addition, many long-time fans of All Elite Wrestling called Cody Rhodes match against his brother, Dustin at AEW’s inaugural pay-per-view event back in 2019 not only one of Cody’s best but one of the company’s best in its short infancy.

It was announced last month that Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes have parted with the company after working there for over three years. This was seen as a shocking move as their departures came out of the left field and many fans expected to see them involved in more storylines as well. For a long time, many fans thought Cody Rhodes was going to WWE but that might no longer be the case.

According to Ringside News, it was said at 3:47 PM on Friday that, “Cody, as of an hour ago, still on internal documents for WrestleMania. No other information available.” It was further added that “Cody is off any internal documents.” He is no longer listed as a part of the show.
