Raquel Gonzalez opens up on Braun Strowman
The NXT Women’s Champion talked to Yahoo Sports recently. In the special Hispanic Heritage Month interview, Raquel discussed how her boyfriend Adam Scherr (formerly Braun Strowman in WWE) helped her with the creative side of wrestling.
“Even just being around Braun Strowman and having that time to pick his brain, being a bigger person and character in the ring, it helped me get a better grasp of the kind of wrestler I wanted to portray myself as when I stepped into the ring.”
Gonzalez then went into about how Scherr worked with her as she made the turn from heel to fan favorite. The champ said the transition was easier than it sounds.
“I think the transition from heel to babyface hasn’t felt too different. I feel like I am still being true to myself. Another big change is being more vocal. When I was a heel bodyguard, I was silent and kind of kept to myself. Now, I can open up about me, my character and who I am.”
Raquel Gonzalez has been one of the best performers for the WWE brand since it was relaunched as NXT 2.0. Gonzalez defeated Frankie Monet on the September 28 episode of NXT. Mandy Rose is set to challenge Gonzalez for the title at NXT Halloween Havoc on October 26 in a “Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal” match.
