Dave Meltzer posted a few days ago on F4WOnline.com’s forums, “As far as the next contact, there are a lot of factors involved. The key being multiple bidders. If there are multiple bidders for both, likely both will get a ton. If not, then no. WWE got big increases because FOX wanted Raw, and USA had a right of first refusal. Otherwise, the numbers wouldn’t have been close. This was based on FOX thinking WWE was DVR proof and live sports was the future of television.
What executives are thinking in 2022 could be a lot of things. If the mentality is WWE as aging and from the past and AEW is beating it for that reason, yes, AEW would be the hot property and get more. But who knows what the perception will be in a year. WWE is trying to get Ronda but who knows what her name value or Brock’s name value will be. Pro wrestling, neither AEW nor WWE, are DVR proof, that’s proven, but it was proven in the last talks and FOX didn’t research it well enough.
FOX could play AEW against WWE as well. If AEW is winning they’d do that. If not, I doubt that will happen.”
