WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN RESULTS (5/8): ORLANDO, FL.

Show Opener

As we enter the Performance Center in Orlando, FL for the Money in the Bank “Go-Home” Show of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, we are welcomed to tonight’s s

how and jump right into things.

Backstage

To start off the night, we head backstage where Mandy Rose is working with a resistance band as her new love interest Otis walks onto the scene. Otis asks Mandy if she’s ready for this match up, to which Mandy responds that this match with Sonya was a long time coming. Otis offers assistance, Mandy tells him to focus on the Money in the Bank match he has coming up, stating she can handle herself.

In a different area backstage, we see Sonya Deville shadow boxing by herself as Dolph Ziggler walks up and asks the same of Sonya that Otis asked Mandy. Sonya responded that she would unleash five years worth of a beating on Mandy.

Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville

Out first is Mandy Rose as her entrance music sounds in the arena. Mandy makes her way down the ramp and enters the ring where she awaits her opponent for the first match up of the evening. Out next is Sonya Deville. Deville makes her way down the ramp to her entrance music, entering the ring with an awaiting Mandy Rose. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins.

As soon as the bell rings, Mandy charges in strong with a Running Knee on Sonya. Sonya gets back to her feet, landing a strike on Mandy to retaliate. Mandy responds with a strike of her own as Sonya exits the ring for a breather. Sonya gets back to the apron and lands a Kick on Mandy as she heads back into the ring to continue the match. Sonya focuses on the injured leg of Mandy, Mandy begins talking smack to Sonya.

Sonya continues to maintain control of the match as she locks in a Body Scissors hold on Mandy. Sonya exclaims that “this is fun” to Mandy as she tells Mandy her performance is “embarrassing”. Sonya continues to down-talk Mandy as she tells Mandy all she has going for her is her looks, adding that she would make her ugly. Mandy finally having enough, builds momentum and lands a Running Lariat, followed by a Knee, knocking Sonya from the ring.

Mandy continues to dominate the match at this point as she throws Sonya into the broadcaster’s table at ringside. Mandy then slams Sonya into the steel stairs on the outside of the ring. Mandy then rolls Sonya back into the ring to finish up this match, shouting at Sonya to “get up”. Mandy goes for a finisher and Sonya reverses, following with a quick roll-up on Mandy for the three count pin and win.

Winner: Sonya Deville

After the Match

Sonya quickly exits the ring, but still celebrates her victory on the ramp, looking back at Mandy.

Eight-Man Tag-Team Match
New Day & Lucha House Party vs. The Miz and Morrison & The Forgotten Sons

Out first are New Day members Kofi Kingston and Big E as their music plays in the arena. Kingston and Big E make their way down the ramp and enter the ring. Out next are the members of Lucha House Party. The Forgotten Sons members Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake make their way to the ring as their music plays in the Performance Center. Last, but certainly not least, The Miz and John Morrison make their way out as their music sounds, stopping at the top of the stage for the slow mo pose, then heading to the ring with the other awaiting opponents.

The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match officially begins! Commentary makes note that it’s unfair that The Miz and John Morrison have to fight to get their titles back in the first place. Kingston and Miz start things off in this eight man tag-team match up. Kingston takes Miz to the canvas, the two grapple starting things off.

Somehow the match breaks into an all out brawl as we head to commercial break.

As we return from commercial break, Blake is the legal man in, along with New Day member Big E. Blake takes down Big E in the corner of the ring. Big E lands a Cobra Twist, followed by a pin attempt on Blake, Steve Cutler jumps in for the save. Big E tags in Kingston who comes in quick with a Leapfrog Leg Drop and the cover for a two count. Kingston then lands a Springboard Dropkick.

Later in the match, Lucha House Party makes their way into this eight man match up, landing a Splash for a pin attempt to no avail. Metalik lands an Arm Wringer on Kingston. Kingston retaliates with a Double Stomp onto Metalik. Kingston goes for the cover, Metalik kicks out immediately. Cutler and Kingston going at it inside the ring, Kingston runs full force at Cutler, Cutler side steps and Kingston slams into the ring post as he goes for a Splash.

The Miz tags in to take a go at things for a moment, then makes the tag to John Morrison. Miz and Morrison double team action before Miz steps out of the ring. Morrison gets a few more hits in before tagging in Cutler. Cutler and Kingston go head-to-head in the ring, Cutler lands Kingston over the second rope, following up with a Knee Choke on Kingston. Blake makes the tag, delivering a Side Headlock on Kingston.

Kingston finally gets out of the Headlock, only to have Miz yank Kingston out of the ring from the outside. Blake hits a Suicide Dive onto Kingston as we go to commercial break.

We return from commercial break and Miz and Kingston are going at it. Miz lands a Jumping Kick on Kingston, followed by the pin, Kingston kicks out. Blake tags back in and attempts to apply an Abdominal Stretch. More back and forth action. Tag in and out on both sides, until it’s finally down to Dorado for Lucha House Party and Morrison. Morrison lands a Samoan Drop on Dorado. Morrison goes for the Starship Pain, misses. Miz tags in and lands the Skull Crushing Finale on Dorado for the three count pin and win!

Winners: The Miz and Morrison & The Forgotten Sons

Backstage

We head backstage where King Corbin is being interviewed. Corbin states that he doesn’t believe Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak have anyone to tag with them yet. Corbin then adds that he is interested in seeing “how far Rey Mysterio can fly” in Money in the Bank.

Commentary makes note of Jeff Hardy’s return as we head to commercial break.

Video Package

As we return from commercial break, the “Real Heroes” video package is played once again with athletes thanking doctors and nurses on the front line in hospitals during the pandemic.

Jeff Hardy Returns!

The video package ends and we head to Renee Young in the ring as she welcomes Jeff Hardy out. Jeff Hardy’s music sounds and Hardy heads out to the familiar entrance theme we know and love! Rene makes mention of the documentary, and his ups and downs, then Hardy is asked what he has left to prove. As Jeff responds and makes note of being a survivor, we see Sheamus backstage mocking Hardy’s answer.

Hardy then asks for us to stick with him for one more “good run” in WWE. Sheamus is shown again where he states, “this is what I’ve been waiting for for four weeks??” Jeff says he’s surprised Sheamus hasn’t interrupted yet, adding he feels his negative energy, then tells Sheamus to come on out. Sheamus’s music sounds.

Sheamus asks Jeff who he thinks still cares about him, after calling Jeff an adrenaline junky, adding that nobody cares about him. Sheamus adds that fans are tired of Jeff’s releases, no shows, second chances, and exits. Sheamus states he used to respect him, but then after watching the video, he asked himself how many false comebacks can one superstar have? Jeff states that Sheamus sure does know a lot about him.

Sheamus states it’s time to put out the flame that is the light in Jeff Hardy. Sheamus heads down the ramp, Jeff lands a Twist of Fate, following up with a Swanton. Jeff embarasses Sheamus and then exits. Sheamus back to his feet after Jeff’s music blares in the arena. Sheamus states, “How dare you disrespect me!”

Quick Announcement

Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt are announced for after the break as Sheamus stands talking to himself inside the ring, Hardy’s music still playing. We head to commercial.

In-Ring Braun Strowman

As we return from commercial break, Braun Strowman’s music sounds in the Performance Center as Strowman makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring, holding a microphone. Strowman begins by stating that he did debut with the Wyatt Family, but adds he doesn’t owe them his success. Strowman says he thanks Wyatt, but if he thinks he “made” Strowman, then he’s more deranged than even Strowman thought. Strowman makes mention of the “gifts” Wyatt has left him and the fact that the Fire Fly Funhouse videos were about him, but tells Wyatt if he has something to say, “come say it to my face”. Strowman looks up the ramp as he paces the ring.

Finally we see the Fire Fly Funhouse on the screen above the stage, the Funhouse music sounds as Bray Wyatt steps onto the stage with a smile. Wyatt makes his way down the ramp and enters the ring with Strowman. Wyatt begins, “Its a shame it had to come to this”. Wyatt tells Strowman all he wanted to say, was he’s sorry. Braun stated that he doesn’t owe him anything to which Wyatt replied that wasn’t true, and he knows it. Strowman then states he will give him what he owes him this Sunday.

Wyatt makes a point that he knows Strowman, because he knows his creations. Wyatt tells Strowman he needed to get the Universal Championship back. Strowman responded to Wyatt stating he wasn’t going to use the phrase “get these hands” just to makes Wyatt happy. Wyatt then responded tht he needs to come home on Sunday as he extends the black sheep mask to Strowman. At this point, the puppets begin telling Strowman to “come home”.

Strowman tells Wyatt he was keeping the Universal Championship, and on Sunday Wyatt would be stuck playing with his puppets. Once again, Wyatt reiterates that he’s sorry, adding that he tried.

Backstage

Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak are seen backstage talking to Otis as we head to commercial break.

Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans & Tamina

All four female superstars make their way to the ring for this SmackDown Women’s Tag-Team match-up. The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins. Banks and Bayley argue back and forth off the match. Tamina not willing to wait while they decide, goes in for a Clothesline, taking both out of the ring. Back and forth action between Evans and Banks. At one point Bayley states she needs a break. Tamina takes over this Women’s Tag Team match-up. We head to commercial break.

As we return from commercial break, commentary makes note that it’s been all Tamina and Lacey Evans so far in this match up. Bayley and Banks land a Double Elbow on Evans, followed by a pin attempt by Bayley, Evans kicks out. Banks with a cheap shot attempt. Bayley and Banks with the double team on Evans, Bayley makes the tag. Evans attempts to fight her way out of the corner. The official still not saying anything about both women double teaming Evans.

Later, Tamina slams Banks into the barricade on the outside of the ring. Tamina then turns her attention to Bayley back inside the ring. A Clothesline by Tamina. Tamina throws Bayley across the ring. Bayley sitting in the corner, Tamina lands a strike. Tamina exits the ring to the apron, Tamina climbs to the second turnbuckle as Banks attempts to stop her. Tamina breaks free and goes for the Splash on Bayley, Bayley lifts her knees for the block.

Bayley lands the Bayley to Belly on Tamina as she talks trash to Tamina. Bayley then heads up top, delivering the elbow as she goes for the cover. Tamina kicks out at two and a half. Bayley looks distraught as the replay is shown. Tamina lifts Bayley onto her shoulders, Banks comes in for the save, Evans takes out Banks. The Samoan Drop by Tamina after a big Superkick, followed by the cover on Bayley for the three count and the win.

Winners: Tamina and Lacey Evans

We head to commercial break once again.

As we return from commercial break, we are offered a quick tour of the WWE Headquarters where the Money in the Bank match-up is set to take place.

SmackDown Hacker Video

We see the familiar static… “I’m watching” the SmackDown Hacker begins as the static comes through. A video clip of Tamina making the pin for the win, then Big E with the Big Ending on Miz. “Are you listening?” The SmackDown Hacker asks, then adds, “Because I am, the thing about anger is, you can always hear it before you see it “He is coming and it’ll be real soon” sound clip.

Drew Gulak, Daniel Bryan, & Otis vs. King Corbin, Cesaro, & Shinsuke Nakamura

Out first is King Corbin, followed by Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. Out next is Drew Gulak and Daniel Bryan as their music sounds in the arena. King Corbin and Nakamura make a comment that Bryan and Gulak were unable to find anyone to be the third competitor. At that point, music sounds for Otis. Otis makes his way down the ramp and joins Gulak and Bryan.

The referee signals for the bell, the bell rings and the match begins. Corbin talks a lot of trash early on in the match. Bryan is in for his side. Bryan lands a Dropkick early on. Corbin lands a Boston Crab on Bryan after several kicks by Bryan. Bryan lands a few more good hits before tagging in Gulak. Gulak works over Corbin. Corbin tags in Cesaro as he gets taken down by Gulak and heads to the outside to recover. Cesaro is taken down as well, Gulak goes for the pin, Cesaro kicks out at two.

Later in the match, Nakamura tags in and goes at it in the ring with Gulak. Gulak tags in Otis. Otis drops Nakamura with Lariats. Otis gets the take down after some back and forth action with Nakamura. Otis goes for the Stinger Splash. At this point, Otis is roarin’ and ready to go as he goes in to the Caterpillar! Bryan and Gulak cut off Cesaro and drop him to the floor at ringside as we head to commercial break.

As we return from the commercial break, Bryan is in the ring along with Cesaro, Bryan gets the Yes Lock on Cesaro who refuses to tap. Cesaro struggles to power out of the submission hold, and finally is able to get to his feet to break the hold. Corbin enters the ring at this point. Otis enters as well, Nakamura following close behind. Gulak cuts off Corbin with a Flying Clothesline, followed by a pin attempt. Corbin kicks out at two. Daniel Bryan lands a Running Knee on Nakamura at ringside.

Gulak is temporarily distracted as Nakamura lands a kick on Bryan. Corbin takes advantage of the moment and lands the Deep Six for the three count pin and win!

Winners: Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro & Baron Corbin

After the Match

The fighting continues and makes it’s way backstage. Corbin stays in the ring as the other five superstars brawl backstage. Corbin grabs a ladder and drags it into the ring. As Corbin sets up the ladder, Bryan appears and stops Corbin. Otis attempts to climb at this point, breaking the bottom rung. Corbin takes out Otis.

Bryan takes Daniel down inside the ring. Corbin rolls to the outside. Daniel Bryan opens the ladder inside the ring again, well after the match, and begins to climb the ladder to the MITB briefcase. Out of nowhere, King Corbin takes down Bryan and begins to climb the ladder, unhooking the green briefcase as he looks down it and smiles, a symbolic victory.
