Will Hobbs initially made his debut in AEW as an enhancement talent. However, due to his impressing performance in matches, the company decided to sign him as a full-time AEW wrestler.
Hobbs originally competed as a babyface, teaming up with Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin in a feud against Team Taz. However, he eventually turned heel on Cody Rhodes and aligned himself with Team Taz.
According to LuchaBlog, prior to working in AEW, Will Hobbs also tried to work in WWE. He had a WWE tryout a few years ago, but the company made no offer to him. Once he appeared on AEW, WWE made an offer to him.
on the AEW podcast, Will Hobbs mentioned he tried out for WWE years ago, got no offer, appeared on AEW, got a WWE offer soon after. So you can add him to that list. (someone should make the list.)
Hobbs also talked about this during the AEW Unrestricted podcast. Here is what he said:
“That was with Baron Corbin. That was in San Jose, California so just maybe 30 minutes from here, from where I am,” Hobbs said. “Did that whole thing [and] had a tryout. The tryout was good. Well, that was a long story, but I’ll give you the short story.
“They said we didn’t have anything for you right now, and then just years later, getting the carrot dangling in front of me, pretty much told him FU. Right when I appeared up on AEW, ‘hey, remember me?’ The way I was raised, I don’t got time for that s**t.”
Hobbs is currently doing well for himself as a member of Team Taz and is certain to get a championship run in the company eventually.
