WWE Rumor: Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal not returning this year?

The traditional battle royal may not be returning for Wrestlemania 34 this year.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, WWE may not bring back the match this year. On the most recent installment of Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez mentioned that he’s been told through a few sources that, instead of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, WWE may opt for a woman’s battle royal.

As of now, there’s no reason why the match wouldn’t be returning. In fact, WWE talent like Wolfgang have hinted at entering the battle royal this year, so it’s possible that this could just be a rumor.

While the match had some pretty great implications when it was first discussed, the winners of the battle royal never earned anything from their victory. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the match nixed, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Which is what I said, but with the exception of Big Show, all the winners were in line for a push which started then quickly fizzled out.
Cesaro they just dropped the ball with, but Corbin has had so many stop/start pushes it is ridiculous. They pushed him way too early, and he is suffering from it now.
As for Rawley, thank god is push came to nothing.

It was there so everybody could get some kind of Mania payday. Basically Vince’s gift to the jobbers.

You’d get rid of it 2 days before the Andre special on HBO?

  • Yespage

That and to give the fans a break between matches with something on the line.

Here is what they should do and you can get rid of another PPV that really is not needed. Put the Money In The Bank match back at WrestleMania where is belongs. You having a ladder match at WrestleMania every year anyway why not make it for the Money In the Bank.

There is one reason and one reason only for the battle royale at WM, and that’s to get as many talent on the card as possible. There was never actually any benefit to it, as pretty much everyone who has ever won it never gained anything from specifically winning it.
Cesaro has built himself back up through his tag team. Corbin is up and down. Rawley has done absolutely nothing, Big Show is just Big Show.
