The August 6th, 2019 edition of WWE SmackDown Live took place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, MI.

 


 

– Charlotte comes out to the ring to kick off tonight’s show. She gets on the mic and talks about how nobody else has what it takes to achieve greatness like her. Charlotte moves on to the topic of her SummerSlam opponent, Trish Stratus. She trashes Trish for leaving the business, and then wanting to come back to steal the spotlight of the women’s evolution and Charlotte’s greatness. Charlotte says Trish was never ever as good as her, and the athletes of today are superior to her. Trish interrupts and exchanges words with Charlotte on her way down to the ring. They continue to trade insults until Charlotte does a “Wooooo” in Trish’s face, and Trish slaps Charlotte across the face. Charlotte laughs and backs away, and leaves the ring. Charlotte poses on the ramp and stares at Trish.

– Still to come: An exclusive interview with Roman Reigns; and Shane McMahon will be on The Kevin Owens Show.

– Rey Mysterio is shown backstage getting ready for his match.

– Goldberg’s music hits, and the camera cuts back to a locker room door, but Dolph Ziggler comes out instead of Goldberg. Ziggler make his entrance to the ring similar to how Goldberg does, with Goldberg’s music playing in the arena. Rey Mysterio comes out next for his singles match with Dolph, but Dolph attacks Rey at ringside before the match starts. Ziggler beats down Rey until referees and agents break it up. Ziggler gets on the mic and talks some trash about Goldberg, saying SummerSlam will be Goldberg’s last match. Ali comes out and checks on Rey, then Ali hits the ring and drops Ziggler with a kick. Ali dumps Ziggler out to ringside and hits a dive on him as we go to commercial.

– Ali vs. Dolph Ziggler: This one was made into an official match during the commercial break. Ali starts off strong and hits a version of the X-Factor on Ziggler for a two count. Ziggler fights back with a lariat on Ali, then he looks for a superkick. Ali ducks it and rolls up Ziggler for a two count. Ziggler comes back with a headbutt, then he connects with the superkick for the three count.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

– We see some replays of Roman Reign’s mystery attacks, starting on last week’s SmackDown with the forklift, and continuing on this week’s RAW with the car.

– Back from the break, the broadcast team runs down the card for this Sunday’s SummerSlam pay-per-view.

– We go to a pre-taped interview with Roman Reigns. Reigns says for the first time, he doesn’t know who or what is attacking him. Reigns says it’s one thing to attack him in the ring, but it’s another thing to attack him backstage, and this is effecting his life. Reigns says he knows who’s not responsible, because he was there last night, and that was Samoa Joe. Reigns says he feels like he should publicly apologize to Joe, and Reigns says he is sorry and that Joe didn’t deserve to have his name dragged through the mud. Reigns says the attacker is still out there, and he’s got questions. Reigns says he’s going to get his answers tonight.

– Natalya is shown backstage heading towards the gorilla position. She takes on Ember Moon next.

– Back from the break, the announcers send us to a video package looking at the legendary career of the late Harley Race.

– Natalya vs. Ember Moon: Natalya starts off strong and overpowers Ember in the opening moments. The fight spills out to ringside and Ember fights back with a dropkick on Natalya into the fan barricade. Natalya fights back with a lariat, and then she puts Ember in the Sharpshooter on the ringside floor. The ref calls for the count-out, and it looks like this one is a double count-out.

– Bayley comes out after the match and tries to pull Natalya off of Ember Moon. Natalya won’t let go, so Bayley shoves her down and then checks on Ember. Natalya gets in Bayley’s face and shoves her into the barrier, then storms off.

– Kevin Owens is shown backstage getting ready to come out to the ring for “The Kevin Owens Show.”

– Owens comes out to the ring with a mic, and tells his guest – Shane McMahon – to come out to the ring so they can get this done with. Shane makes his entrance. While ring announcer Greg Hamilton is announcing Shane as “the best in the world,” Owens walks over and steals Hamilton’s mic and says he’s heard that enough. Kevin says fans have been asking him over and over why Shane isn’t putting his career on the line at SummerSlam, but Owens is. Owens says it’s because of Shane’s last name. Because Shane is a McMahon, he can say and do whatever he wants. Owens says after hearing from the fans, he has changed his mind, so he’s trying to appeal to Shane’s sense of pride, or his ego. Owens says since the McMahon family does what’s best for business, he asks Shane to also put his career on the line and give the people what they want. Owens says then everyone will get what they want, because Owens will beat him on Sunday and then Shane is done. Shane says he wants to ponder that for a second, and then he says no. Shane says Kevin will be the one who’s gone, and there’s no shame in losing to the best in the world. Shane says he’s far smarter than Owens. Owens says he’s surprised, because after all the years of death defying acts by Shane, he just exposed to everyone that he doesn’t really have any balls. Owens drops his mic. Shane says he can see the hostility from Owens, and he says maybe they should have a prelude to what will happen this Sunday. Shane takes off his jacket to fight, but then Elias hits the ring and attacks Owens from behind. Owens throws Elias outside, then Shane attacks Owens from behind. Shane and Owens brawl out to ringside, and Owens starts getting the upper hand. Owens throws Shane over the announce table, but then Elias attacks Owens from behind again. Elias brings Owens up on top of the announce table, but Owens fights back and hits the Stunner on Elias. Shane gets up and takes down Owens now, then pummels on him. Shane flips the table over on top of Owens, then pummels on him some more. Shane sets up a steel chair in front of Owens’ face, then dropkicks it. Shane yells at Owens that on Sunday he is over, and he continues punching Owens’ head. Referees come out and tell Shane to back off. Shane tells the referees to get away from him, then he leaves.

– Sami Zayn comes out to the ring and starts talking about Aleister Black. Sami says he wants to beat and expose Aleister at SummerSlam, and take away all the hype that Aleister can’t live up to anyways. Sami says he hasn’t heard anything from Aleister, and Aleister is staying locked in his safe dark room. Aleister interrupts and says their match won’t happen at SummerSlam, it’ll happen now, and Black heads down to the ring.

– Aleister Black vs. Sami Zayn: Aleister drops Sami with a kick early on and sends him out to ringside. Back in the ring, Sami fights back and hits a clothesline on Black for a two count. They trade blows until Sami hits a backbreaker on Aleister for another two count. Black fights back with a kick and some right hands. Black follows up with a running knee to Sami’s face, and then a springboard moonsault. Black follows up with another running knee to the face. Black lifts up Zayn and hits the Black Mass for the three count.

Winner: Aleister Black

– Shelton Benjamin is backstage for an interview. He’s asked if he would ever compete for the 24/7 Championship. Shelton looks like he’s in deep thought, then he says “Well…” and walks off.

– It’s time for a new Firefly Fun House with Bray Wyatt. Bray walks up to a pig puppet, and the puppet looks like it just ate a ton of candy. Bray says just like the pig loves to stuff his face with sugary snacks to cover up his insecurities, he’s afraid that Finn’s courage is just ignorance in disguise. Bray points out that Finn invited The Fiend to his doorstep willingly, “yowie wowie.” Bray says it’s Finn’s turn to hurt, and The Fiend is coming for him. Bray says “let me in,” and then the screen switches to a clip of him in his Fiend mask.

– We go backstage, where Elias is getting in Chad Gable’s face about leaving his stuff in Elias’ dressing area. Elias makes some jokes about Gable’s height, then grabs his guitar and walks off.

– We go to a video package looking at the feud between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton, including clips from a sit-down interview with Kingston.

– Xavier Woods & Big E vs. Daniel Bryan & Rowan: Woods starts off strong against Bryan, and Woods dumps him outside for a suicide dive on the eco-friendly former Champion. Back in the ring, Big E tags in and levels Bryan with a clothesline. Woods tags back in and continues the offense on Bryan. Rowan tags in and hits Woods with a slam. Woods fights back with an enziguri and then lays into Rowan with punches in the corner. Rowan fights back and drops Woods, then tags in Bryan. Woods scrambles to try to tag in Big E, but Bryan keeps him grounded on the mat. Woods finally fights back with an elbow to the face of Bryan, and both men are down. Rowan tags in and knocks Big E off the apron, then throws Woods out to ringside too. Rowan whips Woods into the ring steps, and then throws him into the timekeeper’s area. Back in the ring, Woods finally knocks Rowan down, and Big E gets the hot tag. Bryan tags in, and Big E immediately hits a series of suplexes on Bryan. Big E follows up with a running splash on Bryan. Big E misses a shot off the ropes, and Bryan fires back with a dropkick to Big E’s knee. Bryan follows up with a series of kicks on Big E. Big E starts to fight back, but Bryan drops him again with a Yes Lock attempt. Big E tries to reverse into a pin, but Bryan gets the shoulder up and looks for a triangle choke on the New Day member. Big E reverses it into a powerbomb for a two count. Bryan starts to fight back with punches an elbows, then tags in Rowan. Rowan hits a kick to the face on Big E for a two count. Rowan picks Big E up on his shoulders, but Big E escapes and takes Rowan down. Woods tags in and hits a flying elbow off the top on Rowan. Bryan breaks up the pin attempt. Big E dumps Bryan out to the apron, then he spears Bryan off the apron through the ropes. Woods dumps Rowan outside and looks for a suicide dive on him, but Rowan picks up the ring steps and nails Woods mid-air. The ref calls for the DQ.

– After the bell, Bryan and Rowan continue to beat down their opponents. Rowan hits the Iron Claw on Big E, then Bryan hits the running knee to the face on Woods.

– Roman Reigns is shown walking backstage, and he gets into one of the locker rooms. Reigns tells everyone to get out, except Buddy Murphy. Reigns says he saw Buddy there the night of the forklift attack, and he starts questioning Buddy. Reigns says either Buddy did it, or he saw who did it. Reigns says he’s only going to ask one more time. Murphy says he doesn’t want any trouble, and he doesn’t know who did it. Murphy says if he did know, he still wouldn’t tell Reigns a damn thing. Reigns has heard enough, and he nails Buddy with some right hands, then throws him into a trash can. Reigns throws him on to a table, and continues the beat-down while asking him who did it. Murphy says Rowan did it. Reigns asks if he’s talking about Daniel Bryan and Rowan, and Murphy says he didn’t see Bryan, only Rowan. The camera cuts back to the ring, where Rowan and Bryan are still standing and watching this unfold on the big screen. SmackDown goes off the air with a shot of Bryan and Rowan in the ring.
