Joaquin Wilde’s journey to WWE was not an easy one. Despite being a well-known figure in the wrestling world before his WWE debut in 2019, his career was almost cut short due to a devastating injury that he suffered in a match in Mexico City, Mexico.
Reflecting on this traumatic experience in a recent interview with Ryan Satin of the Out Of Character podcast, Wilde shared the harrowing details of his injury. He explained that it wasn’t just the severity of the injury that was alarming, but rather the fact that it should have ended his life.
The injury was a stomach injury that left Wilde in a precarious position. Speaking about the aftermath of the injury, Wilde revealed that he had consulted with a gastroenterologist two months after the incident. The doctor was shocked at the severity of the injury and commented that Wilde should have been dead. This revelation left Wilde feeling grateful for being given a second chance.
“It’s unbelievable. It wasn’t just that the injury happened, it should have ended my career, it should have ended my life. I remember speaking to a gastroenterologist two months after this injury happened and when he looked at my X-Rays and story, he said, ‘I feel like I’m talking to a ghost right now. You should be dead.’ I just thought to myself, why was I given this second chance? Why was I spared? Why am I still able to wrestle, why am I still alive? I just always thought that it was because there was still something left for me to achieve in this business. I guess WWE was the thing and here we are, I’m so glad it all worked out.”
He pondered over why he was spared and what his purpose was. Wilde stated that he always believed that he was destined for something greater in the wrestling industry. This thought was what kept him going and eventually led him to WWE.
Looking back, Wilde is glad that it all worked out for him. He is grateful for the opportunity to still be able to wrestle and live a full life. His journey serves as an inspiration for many aspiring wrestlers who may be facing setbacks or challenges in their careers. Wilde’s resilience and determination to succeed is a testament to the human spirit’s strength and the unwavering belief in one’s dreams.
