During a recent interview with Cafe de Rene, Jonny Candido, the brother of Chris Candido, shared a story about his brother’s advice regarding WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels. Chris Candido and Sunny (also known as Tammy Lynn Sytch) had started dating when they were just 17 years old and worked together in various wrestling promotions, including Smoky Mountain Wrestling, WWE (formerly WWF), and ECW.
It was during their time in the Stamford-based company that Sunny had a love affair with Shawn Michaels. According to Sunny, the relationship lasted less than a year and came to an end when she refused to leave Chris and move in with Michaels, who was known as “The Heartbreak Kid.”
In the interview, Jonny Candido recalled a conversation he had with his brother Chris, during which Chris advised him not to engage in arguments or fights with Michaels. Chris’s words of wisdom were a reminder to Jonny to maintain a positive and respectful attitude. He cautioned Jonny against starting anything, emphasizing that rumors could easily be blown out of proportion. Chris also acknowledged that he himself hadn’t been perfect, suggesting that any past issues between him and Michaels should be considered water under the bridge.
This anecdote offers a glimpse into the personal dynamics and complexities within the wrestling industry. It highlights the importance of maintaining professionalism and avoiding unnecessary conflicts, even in situations where personal relationships may have caused tension. Despite the challenges that may arise, Chris Candido’s advice to his brother serves as a reminder to handle such situations with maturity and understanding.
“You know, years later, I mean, I’ll say this. When, you know, like, around the time when like right before in 03-04, he was like, ‘Dude, listen.’ He’s like, ‘You’re gonna come across Shawn Michaels. Don’t be a d*ck. Don’t f**king start anything thinking you’re doing me a favor.’ He’s like, ‘f**king be cool. For all you know, it’s rumors. And if anything did happen, I haven’t been perfect either. So, it’s water under the bridge. Don’t start anything.
