According to The Hill, in a heartbreaking incident near former President Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard residence, Massachusetts authorities made a grim discovery of a deceased individual, later identified as Tafari Campbell, the family’s former chef. The unfortunate incident unfolded when a missing paddleboarder was reported, prompting the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) to take immediate action.

After deploying side-scan sonar from a boat, the Massachusetts Environmental Police successfully located the body, leading to its recovery by the MSP’s divers from the underwater recovery unit. Tafari Campbell, a 45-year-old native of Dumfries, Va., had been visiting the Obamas’ Martha’s Vineyard residence at the time of his untimely death. It is important to note that the former first family was not present at their residence when the incident occurred.

Tafari Campbell held a special place in the hearts of the Obamas, who regarded him as a cherished member of their family. They fondly remembered first meeting him when he served as a sous chef during their time at the White House. Such was the bond between the family and Campbell that, when the Obamas were preparing to leave the White House, they requested him to stay with them, and he generously agreed. Since then, Campbell had remained an integral part of their lives, making his passing even more devastating for the Obamas.

In a joint statement, former President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama expressed their grief over the loss of their beloved friend and chef. They emphasized how Campbell had become an essential and beloved part of their family, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. The couple extended their heartfelt condolences to Tafari Campbell’s wife, Sherise, and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin, as they join the larger circle of people who knew and loved the chef.
