During a recent appearance on the Brotherly Love Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Edge delved into the intriguing web of his inspirations and the winding path that ultimately led him into the world of professional wrestling.

Reflecting on his formative years, Edge candidly admitted, “If I look back at my childhood, I was a bit of an oddball, but we all were in our own unique ways, right? My sources of inspiration during those times were quite eclectic: Ace Frehley, Sylvester Stallone, my dear mother, my Uncle Gary, and the legendary Hulk Hogan – these were my guiding lights.”

As he continued to recount his journey, Edge shared how he gradually realized that becoming a guitar virtuoso, akin to KISS’ original lead guitarist, was not his destiny. However, it was Sylvester Stallone who left an indelible mark on his psyche, both physically and mentally, reminiscent of his Uncle Gary.

“I’ve always harbored a special affinity for Stallone,” Edge admitted. “Discovering more about his life story over the years has only deepened my respect for the unwavering determination and resilience that defined his character.”

The pivotal moment in Edge’s life came when he stumbled upon professional wrestling for the first time. He recalled that epiphanic encounter, saying, “I had already explored my interests in music and admired Stallone, but it was when I first witnessed professional wrestling that something truly extraordinary happened. I couldn’t peel my eyes away from the screen. It was as though I was watching comic books come to life, and since I was an avid comic book enthusiast, this newfound passion held a magnetic allure.”

Edge continued, reflecting on the distinction between his comic book heroes and the wrestling icons he aspired to meet: “While I couldn’t shake hands with Spider-Man or have a heart-to-heart with the Incredible Hulk or Thor, I realized that I could venture down to Maple Leaf Gardens, and with a touch of audacity (or creepiness, as I humorously put it), figure out where the wrestlers entered the arena. There, I could engage in conversations, pick their brains, and become part of the world I admired so much.”
