Trump Says Nikki Haley Gone From Election After…

Nikki Haley openly questioned Donald Trump’s mental acuity on Wednesday night following his public assertion that she would not be on the ballot for the Indiana primary.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed, “Nikki Haley is not on the Ballot in Indiana because she didn’t get enough Petition Signatures—She missed the deadline!” Trump dismissed Haley as a non-serious candidate if she did not appear on the Indiana ballot for the 2024 GOP nomination.

Responding to Trump’s assertion, Haley took to her own social media, stating, “Looks like Donald Trump is confused again. Another reason why he’s too afraid to debate me.” She challenged Trump’s claims about her candidacy and insinuated that his confusion was a barrier to engaging in a debate with her.

A spokesperson for the former South Carolina governor confirmed to Politico’s Adam Wren that Haley had submitted more than double the required number of petition signatures for Indiana. The spokesperson explained that the signatures were undergoing verification, a standard process before the filing deadline on February 9. This confirmation contradicted Trump’s assertion and affirmed Haley’s presence on the Indiana ballot.

With the Indiana primary scheduled for May 7, Trump, having already secured victories over Haley in Iowa and New Hampshire, is intensifying pressure on his final GOP challenger to withdraw from the race. Trump aims to concentrate his attacks on President Joe Biden and has threatened to exclude new donors to Haley’s campaign from his “MAGA camp.”

Despite early setbacks, Haley remains steadfast in her commitment to the race. In response to Trump’s attacks, she has shifted her strategy, seemingly targeting his age and mental fitness. Her campaign unveiled a series of attack ads titled “Grumpy Old Men,” criticizing both Trump and the 81-year-old President Biden for purported signs of cognitive decline.

Haley has gone further, advocating for mental competency tests for lawmakers over the age of 75. At an event in New Hampshire, she questioned the viability of having two candidates in their eighties running for president, referencing both Trump and Biden. This move appears to be an attempt to frame the narrative around age and fitness for office.

Trump, on the other hand, maintains that he is mentally sharp, countering suggestions of cognitive decline. Despite a past speech where he appeared to confuse Haley with Nancy Pelosi, Trump asserted over the weekend that he feels “sharper now than I did 20 years ago.” The exchange between Trump and Haley underscores the escalating tension and strategic shifts in the unfolding dynamics of the 2024 GOP nomination race.
