WWE has released Cameron Grimes from his contract. He recently took to Twitter/X on April 23 and announced that he got off the phone with WWE, and had been released. In an emotional video clip, Grimes thanked WWE and made it clear that he loved working there. He also stated that all he wanted to do was work for WWE but the release lit a fire under him.
WWE have released several talents due to budget cuts last week. Yesterday, NXT Superstar Von Wagner was also released from the company. The company had previously released several other stars in its recent round of cuts. Among those affected were Xyon Quinn, Jinder Mahal, and surprisingly, Xia Li. Additionally, Veer Mahan was also unexpectedly released shortly thereafter. Following them, Sanga was also released from the company. So it seems that Grimes was part of this group.
Grimes had inked a deal with WWE in 2019 and had a lengthy, successful run on NXT. He won the NXT North American Championship and held the Million Dollar Championship. He moved to the main roster in the 2023 WWE Draft but wasn’t used in the programming. In his last match with the company, Grimes lost to Bron Breakker on the April 12 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Ahead of his run with WWE, Grimes, then known as Trevor Lee, had a great stint in TNA. He held the X-Division Championship three times and the World Tag Team Championship once.
