Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) recently discussed Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-CO) “bizarre” insistence which is contrary to reports that former President Donald Trump has not been sleeping during his New York criminal trial, but praying. The congresswoman hedged, stating that if Trump was sleeping, he looks “pretty” while doing so via Mediaite.
Maggie Haberman of the New York Times has dispatched on multiple occasions that the former president has dozed off during the proceedings in which he faces 34 counts of falsifying business records.
It has been noted that during Thursday’s meeting of the House Oversight Committee which was a veritable farce, Garcia referenced Trump’s drowsiness in the courtroom, prompting Boebert to offer an alternate theory.
“I think he’s praying,” Boebert said, before truly going for it. “But if he is sleeping, you know, he certainly looks pretty while he sleeps.”
Garcia appeared on Friday’s edition of All In on MSNBC, where he discussed the exchange.
“Congressman, you think that Donald Trump was deep in prayer?” asked guest host Alicia Menendez.
“Absolutely not,” he responded. “We know first, he’s not a religious man. That was bizarre. Ms. Boebert, of course, went on this whole tirade about Donald Trump actually praying, that he’s actually not sleeping during the court trial. We know that the New York Times, the New York Post, NBC, Forbes, all outlets have reported that Donald Trump has actually been asleep sometimes for long periods of time during his court trial.”
Garcia went on to state that the reason he highlighted those reports was to undermine Republicans’ claims that President Joe Biden – or “Sleepy Joe,” as Trump calls him, lacks the energy and vigor to be president.
“This is a complete joke,” Garcia concluded.
