Former President Donald Trump recently called for the Supreme Court to intervene in his hush money criminal case via Newsweek.
It was on Thursday that a jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records relating to a hush money payment made to the adult film actress Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election by Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen. The prosecution argued that the hush money payment was part of a broader scheme to “promote Mr. Trump’s election by unlawful means.”
It has been noted that Trump is set to be sentenced on July 11, days before Republicans are expected to formally pick Trump as their nominee in the presidential election.
Trump reflected upon the verdict on Sunday and wrote on his Truth Social platform that the nation’s highest court should step in. The Supreme Court has a 6-3 conservative majority, including three justices who were appointed by Trump.
“The ‘Sentencing’ for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention,” he wrote.
“A Radical Left Soros backed D.A., who ran on a platform of ‘I will get Trump,’ reporting to an ‘Acting’ Local Judge, appointed by the Democrats, who is HIGHLY CONFLICTED, will make a decision which will determine the future of our Nation? The United States Supreme Court MUST DECIDE!”
The charge of falsifying business records is a Class E felony in New York, and punishable by up to four years in prison. Other punishments could include house arrest, a fine or probation.
